HEALTHY ROUTINE SUPPORTING STRENGTH FOR SUCCESS

Biologically different, a woman's health concerns are different from those of a man. This women's day, it is about celebrating the spirit of the women and their contribution to society. We, at The CEO Magazine, acknowledge that every woman has different struggles and if you're a woman, these tips will soon have you feeling fit and energetic.

Women's health changes at every age and there are different requirements at each stage of their life. Be it the responsibilities of a housewife or being a leader at an organisation, it is essential to recognise and incorporate the smart lifestyle and health choices. Here are six simple things that women can do every day (or with regularity) to ensure good health:

A Healthy Diet

Eat a healthy diet and staying healthy, a clichéd advice we all have heard is actually easy to incorporate if one wishes to. We understand that it is difficult to manage in your difficult routine, but an easy step is to ensure that one is consuming as close to a natural foods diet as they can definitely support this initiative. What it means is simply:

  • Adding a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables and fewer processed foods.
  • Adding the whole grains and high-fibre foods.
  • Choosing leaner cuts of meat, fish, and poultry
  •  Including low-fat dairy products in your diet as well depending on your age, one also needs to consume between 800 and 1,500 milligrams of calcium daily to help avoid osteoporosis.
  • Avoiding foods and beverages that are high in calories, sugar, salt, and fat.

All these are essentials to ensure a maintained weight and assure that one does fall prey to the trap of the diseases caused by the overweight. Now, one common mistake I cannot do and ignore is avoiding the vitamins. Apart from the natural diet, one might want to take a multivitamin and a calcium supplement to make sure they are maintaining good health.

Exercise Your Health Risks Away

When it comes to search for the looking and feeling good in all season of life, the one-size-fits-all solutions is indeed Exercise. Most of the death in women is because of the heart disease in various developed countries and in other countries the number is still high.

Aerobic exercises including walking, swimming, jogging, bicycling, and dancing are good for women's health in general and especially for working women who can have a chance at better health with the health benefits, including lowering blood pressure, reducing cholesterol and cardiovascular disease, preventing diabetes, improving mood and cognitive function, and reducing mortality.

Avoid Risky Habits

Being in a corporate scenario, many women tend to have risky habits due to the stress from work and other aspects. They may also indulge in the same during the corporate meets. The basic and important tips that should be taken care of including:

  • Staying away from cigarettes and people who smoke.
  • Don't be trapped in the vicious cycle of using drugs.
  • If you drink alcohol, do the same in moderation.
  • Most women's health studies show that women can safely consume one drink a day. A drink is considered to be about 12 to 14 grams of alcohol, which is equal to 12 ounces of beer (4.5 per cent alcohol); 5 ounces of wine (12.9 per cent alcohol); or 1.5 ounces of spirits (hard liquor such as gin or whiskey, 80-proof).

Manage Stress

At different stages of her life, women, as a daughter, mother and grandmother, wears various hats which add as she ages. The stress is an inevitable outcome of the same.

No matter how busy the schedule, taking a few minutes every day just to relax and get the perspective back again. Mental health cannot be ignored and should be at par with the importance given to physical health. Being a working woman, one should manage stress with exercise, relaxation techniques, or meditation.

Sun Safely

While makeup is something that many women apply or don't apply based on their preferences, skincare is essential. Excessive exposure to the sun's harmful rays can cause deadly skin cancer. Protection against skin cancer includes measures like wearing a sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15 if you are going to be outdoors for more than a few minutes.

If one is not wearing the sunscreen faithfully, they should check regularly for signs of skin cancer. Warning signs for skincare that should be noticed include any changes in the size, shape, colour, or feel of birthmarks, moles, or freckles, or new, enlarging, pigmented, or red skin areas. If you spot any changes or you find you have sores that are not healing, consult your doctor.

Check For Breast Cancer

In India, one woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every 4 minutes. It is one of the most common cancers diagnosed in women and hence each woman in India starting in their 20s should be on the lookout for any changes in their breasts and report any concerns to their doctor.

It is advised that every woman of age 40 and older should get a yearly mammogram as a mammogram is the most effective way of detecting cancer in its earliest stages when it is most treatable. A woman's health needs change as she ages, but the basics of women's health remain the same.
