Sundar Pichai – Brains Behind Google Products

Nobody thought that an Indian boy from an average middle-class family will be the head of the world’s largest search engine. But Sundar Pichai made this possible when he became the CEO of Google in 2015.

The MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania got the opportunity when Google went under a corporate restructuring after which Alphabet was launched as the parent company of Google by its founder Larry Page and Sergey Brin.

Also, an Siebel Scholar, Pichai joined Google as a product manager in 2004 and was involved in the creation of Google Chrome and Chrome OS which became very popular. Later, he became the head of the produce department and manages various Google products like Google Docs and Gmail which gained success quickly. Before joining Google he was an engineer and product manager at Applied Materials and as a management consulting at McKinsey Company. His colleagues at Google call him “man behind Google’s most important products.”


Early life and Education

Google CEO Sundar Pichai also known as Pichai Sundararajan was born on 12th July 1972 in Chennai, India. His father, Regunatha Pichai was a humble man and he wanted his son to be an engineer as he was also an electrical engineer in the British conglomerate GEC. His mother used stenographer before giving birth to her children.

Pichai was a bright student and was a topper in his school, Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan. Because of his dedication and hard work, he got a seat in the most prestigious engineering institute in India which is IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) Kharagpur. He completed his bachelor’s in Metallurgical engineering and then won a scholarship to study at Stanford University from where is completed his masters in materials science and semiconductor physics.

Google is one of the top companies in the world and is considered in the top 4 technology companies in the world alongside Amazon, Apple and Facebook. Head office of Google is situated in Mountain View, California and is specialised in internet-related products and services like cloud computing, search engine, online advertising, smartphones and home devices.

Google was founded by two PhD holders from Stanford University Larry Page and Sergey Brin on 4th September in 1998. Both of them are having 14 per cent shares and also 56 per cent power of voting through supervoting stock. Google was first incorporated in the year 1998 then it was reincorporated in Delaware in the year 2002 and the year 2004 they took the company to the public.

In the year 2015, its owners, Larry Page and Sergey Brin decided to launch a company called Alphabet Inc. which became the parent company of Google through corporate restructuring. Google is known to be the biggest company under Alphabet. After this conglomerate, Larry Page became the CEO of Alphabet and Sundar Pichai was announced as the new CEO of Google LLC.

Google became popular as a search engine instantly and after this success they also launched several useful products to enhance work efficiency like Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, G-mail, Google calendar, Google Drive, Google Duo, Hangout, Google translate, Google maps, Google Earth, Street View, Youtube, Google Notes and Google Photos. It is also behind the development of the Android operating system, web browser Google Chrome, Chrome OS and many other operating systems. Google is now developing hardware products like smartphones (Google Pixel), Home Devices (Google Home), Wireless router (Google wifi) and virtual reality headset (Google Daydream). They are also planning to serve as an Internet carrier with the help of Google fibre, Google Fi and Google Station.

Google is the most visited website in the world and the second most visited website is YouTube which is a part of Google. So it is safe to say that Google is dominating the Internet world. Google was also the most valuable brand in 2017 it is also criticized by many because of their privacy concerns, censorship and search neutrality. Google main aim is to organize every information in the world accessible to everyone.
