The Modern internet entrepreneur from America who changed the way we socialize with each other is Mark Elliot Zuckerberg. He is famous for creating and leading the most popular social networking site called Facebook. He is also the founder and a board member of a spacecraft development programme called Solar Sail.

While studying at Harvard University, Zukerberg with his four friends, Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes launched Facebook in their hostel room on 4th February 2004. They created it for their college friends but it gained popularity outside of college and went on to reach one billion users in the year 2012. Mark decided to take the company public in May 2012, keeping the majority of shares with him.

Zuckerberg's current net worth is over $68 billion as he is the fifth richest person in the world. In the year 2007, he became the youngest billionaire in history at the age of 23. In the list of Forbes top 10 richest people in the world, he is the only one who is under 50 years, and in the list of top 20 billionaires, Zuckerberg is the only one to be under 40 years. In the year 2010, he was placed among the top 100 richest as well as influential personalities in the world by Time magazine. In late 2016, he was on the 10th place of the Forbes list of world's most powerful people.

Early Life

On 14th May 1984, Karen and Edward Zukerberg had a son and they named him as Mark. He was born and brought up in White Plains, NYC. Mark is a huge star wars fan as he had a Star war-themed Bar Mitzvah when he was 13.

Mark was the topper of Ardsley High School, after a couple of years he was transferred to Phillips Exeter Academy it was a private school where he won many prizes in physics, maths, astronomy and classical studies. He also attended the youth summer camp of John Hopkins centre. Mark Zuckerberg was able to read and write in ancient Greek, Hebrew, French and Latin.

Facebook

The world's biggest social media platform, Facebook was founded by Mark Zukerberg with four of his friends. It is based in Menlo Park, California and come among giant tech companies in the world with Apple, Google and Amazon.

Facebook was initially called "The Facebook" but later on the suggestion of Sean Parker founder of Napster, it was rebranded as just "Facebook". During its early days, access of Facebook was limited to Harvard University students but later it expanded to all Ivy League schools. This name was originated from the face-book directory of American university students and anyone who claims to be over 13 years of age can create a facebook account. Facebook made a record of being the highest valued company on its first IPO with a valuation of over $104 billion. They make huge profits from the ad revenue and user's news feed.

Services of facebook can be accessed from anywhere; all you need is a desktop, laptops or a smartphone with an internet connection. A user can customize his/her profile according to their need; they can post pictures, texts and videos of them and their family. It also allows us to interact with people from around the world and make friends with them.  According to Meta statistics for December 2018 Facebook has over 3 billion active users worldwide.

Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus and GrokStyle are some companies which are acquired by Facebook. Services like Facebook Messenger, Facebook portal and Facebook watch are developed by them independently.
