'The land of forests', Jharkhand is situated in the eastern part of India. It is endowed with rich flora and fauna. A Glimpse of History

Until 1765, when the British entered Chota Nagpur as part of Bihar, the area was ruled by chiefs of various indigenous groups. With time, the British started expanding their dominance over the plains to the north of present-day Jharkhand.  From the second half of the 18th century to the beginning of 19th, the revolt has erupted in Chota Nagpur against the British Rule. Some important uprisings were the Ho revolt (1820–27) and the Munda uprising (1831–32). One of the longest tribal revolts under 'Birsa Munda' started in 1895 and went on till 1900.

From the period of British expansion until the 21st century, the history of Jharkhand completely overlapped with the history of Bihar. On 15 November 2000, Jharkhand became the 28th State of the Union, and the dream of tribal having a separate state came to reality.

Culture

The vibrant culture of Jharkhand is influenced by both tribal and non-tribal community. Being a newly carved state from the northern part of Bihar, it holds their unique culture intact. People celebrate Tusu Fair or Poush Mela that is a festival of harvesting. Karma is another major festival of the state. The Sohari festival is celebrated during Diwali, and this is one of the most awaited festivals.

The different crafts of Jharkhand, which are an important part of the people, include wood crafts, bamboo crafts, Paitkar paintings, and metal works.

Food

Jharkhand has numerous traditional delicacies for different taste-buds. Some of the popular dishes of Jharkhand include Dhuska, Rugra, Puttu or Phutka: A Mushroom, Pitha, Arsa Roti, Metha Khaza, Dudhori Litti Chokha, Chilka Roti, Malpua, Thekua, Kanda Ki Sabzi and many more.

Ranchi

Jamshedpur

The largest city in Jharkhand, Jamshedpur is the quintessential example of the boon of industrialization in a developing nation. Bokaro

Giridih

Road– Jharkhand has good road connectivity with 1,500 km national highways and 2,711 km state highways.
