Ashish Kumar Gupta: Deputy Managing Director Texmaco

With over 27 years of extensive experience in leadership and management, Ashish is the Deputy Managing Director at Texmaco. Ashish is a graduate in Electrical Engineering from IIT Roorkee (1993 batch) and has completed the General Management Program from XLRI, Jamshedpur and CEDEP (INSEAD), France. He has an expertise inOperations-Maintenance Technology, Safety, SPC and TQM in India and abroad.

Ashish joined Tata Steel as a Graduate Trainee in 1993 and worked in various positions in steel plant operations from 1993 to 2008. He was the Head of Operations and Maintenance in Cold Rolling Mill from 2002 to 2008.

This was followed by a stint as Financial Controller (Head, Business Analysis), in the Flat Products division, from 2008 to 2009. From 2009 to 2017, he managed the logistics for Tata Steel.

Since November 2020, Ashish has been the Deputy Managing Director at Texmaco Rail & Engineering Limited. He has also been the Managing Director of TMILL (Tata Steel JV), Chairman of TKM India and ISL, Dubai, which are subsidiaries of TMILL in areas of Freight Forwarding and Shipping respectively. He is also a Board Member of Tata NYK, Singapore.

Ashish has developed proficiency in capacity exploitation and de-bottlenecking,cost management, business growth and scale-up of operations, new business development and management of large workforce and organization.

He is an effective communicator with excellent relationship management skills and strong analytical, leadership, decision making, problem solving & organizational abilities.

Some of his notable achievements are:

  • One of the youngest MDs in the Tata Steel Group of companies.

  • Leading rapid growth of TMILL. The top line has increased from Rs 530 crores in FY17 to Rs 1050 crores in FY'20. The company is on the path to cross Rs1500 crores in FY23, with a 300% increase in bottom-line over FY17.

  • De bottlenecking of operations in Cold Rolling Mill at Tata Steel, Jamshedpur.

  • De-bottlenecking and ramp-up of supply chain and logistics of Tata Steel from 7 to 13 million tons per annum.

  • He has created a new business vertical for Rail Operations from scratch in FY17 to an Rs400 crores business in FY21 (projected).

  • Been on the core management team for the Deming Application Prize and Deming Grand Prize.

  • Awarded Supply Chain Executive of the year by Indian Chambers of Commerce in FY 14.
