THE 'SMART CITY' PERSPECTIVE

A Smart city is an urban area that uses different types of electronic Internet of things (IoT) sensors to collect data and then use these data to manage assets and resources efficiently. This includes data collected from citizens, devices, and assets that are processed and analyzed to monitor and manage traffic and transportation systems, power plants, water supply networks, waste management, crime detection, information systems, schools, libraries, hospitals, and other community services.

Rajeev further confirms, "The concept of smart city was introduced by Government of India as a bold initiative which got highlighted through different News media, Internet and various other digital platforms. Also, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is on a list of 98 smart cities declared by the Government of India for development under the Smart Cities Mission."

THE STRATEGIC ROADMAP

The operational data of Saraplast is automatically recorded with the help of internet and software integrated with their day-to-day operations. It also helps in job creation opportunities in various departments and locations.

"A smart city uses the internet of things (IoT), data, and technology to streamline services to make a city more connected, efficient, manageable, and cost-effective. Smart cities drive innovation, have connected residents, optimized governance, and made better use of precious resources" avows Rajeev.

THE HICCUPS ON THE WAY

  • Man-in-the-middle: An attacker breaches, interrupts or spoofs communications between two systems. For example, a man-in-the-middle attack on a smart valve can be used to deliberately because wastewater overtops.
  • Data & identity theft: Data generated by unprotected smart city infrastructures such as parking garages, EV charging stations and surveillance feeds provide cyber attackers with an ample amount of targeted personal information that can potentially be exploited for fraudulent transactions and identity theft.
  • Device hijacking: The attacker hijacks and effectively assumes control of a device. These attacks can be difficult to detect because in many cases, the attacker does not alter the basic functionality of the device.
  • Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS): A denial-of-service attack (DoS attack) attempts to render a machine or network resource unavailable to its intended users by temporarily or indefinitely disrupting services of a host connected to the Internet.
  • Permanent Denial of Service (PDoS): Permanent denial-of-service attacks (PDoS), also known loosely as plashing, is an attack that damages the device so badly that it requires replacement or reinstallation of hardware. In a smart city scenario, a hijacked parking meter could also fall victim to sabotage and would have to be replaced.

FEATHERS ON THE CAP

Rajeev proudly shares, "We at 3s India have a unique business model of polyethylene portable sanitation service teamed with powerful management and continuous team efforts have made a difference in a common man's life in India."

The efforts of this pioneering brand can be witnessed at various construction sites, religious gatherings, events and even tourist sites where formerly finding a clean toilet was a major issue. Various recognitions, awards & grants they have earned from the society like 3s India is the 1st company in sanitation to be awarded ISO 9001:2008 certification, 2011, Sankalp – Premiere Social Enterprise Awarded 3s India winner in the health, water and sanitation space in India, 2010, Department for International Development (DFID), Govt. of United Kingdom awarded a grant through Business Innovation Facility to develop and scale the BOP model in sanitation, India's 1st ever CNN IBN India Positive Awards, 2012 and many more.

"Smart cities have a very strong positive image around the world; they are no longer the wave of the future.Business leaders today are more interested in making every city a smart city, this can help municipal governments operate more efficiently and improve the quality of life for residents. Public safety and public services are key elements of a smart city"
