Business Wire India

London-headquartered Smartmatic, the global leader in Automated Elections, Smart Cities, and Identity Management Solutions, has announced the appointment of Ramaakanth Sake as President of its Asia Pacific operations (APAC).

Ramaakanth, based in Singapore, will assume the overall responsibility of directing Smartmatic's operations and organization throughout the Asia Pacific region. As president of APAC, Ramaakanth will oversee India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, all Southeast Asia, Oceania, Korea, Japan and China.

Since its inception in 2000, Smartmatic has developed and manufactured in Asia more than 275,000 voting and counting machines. Its R&D lab in Taiwan has been crucial to the consolidation of its position as the undisputed leader in the industry. Smartmatic has helped conduct the three largest electronic vote counting projects in Asia and has successfully completed Smart City projects in the Philippine provinces of Bataan and Bulacan.

According to Smartmatic CEO Antonio Mugica, Ramaakanth's appointment holds a strategic importance to the company as he points out that the Asia-Pacific region is "shaping up to be a key engine for the global economy, opening enormous opportunities for the industry."

"I am confident that Ramaakanth's experience, energy, and vision, combined with strategic-thinking, excellent sales track-record and exceptional leadership abilities, will make him the ideal executive to lead our efforts as we partner with forward-thinking governments in the region wishing to embrace technology solutions to improve governance," Mugica said.

Confident about opening even more opportunities for Smartmatic in the region, Ramaakanth said "I am excited to join Smartmatic's passionate and energetic team. I look forward to partnering with election commissions, and governments across the APAC region to bring efficiency and transparency to their elections and improve the life quality of citizens."

Ramaakanth has enjoyed a successful career spanning over two decades. Before joining Smartmatic, he worked for the Tata's and then Motorola Solutions for 20 years in India and Singapore, where he rose to the position of Vice President-MSSSI.
