Media Conclave – Communiqué'19 XUB

Xavier University, Bhubaneswar (XUB) will be hosting its annual media conclave, Communiqué'19 XUB, on September 07, 2019. This conclave is a national level flagship event of IlluminatiX – Media and PR Cell of XUB, which brings eminent industry veterans to talk about emerging and relevant media topics. The theme for the event this year is "Truth, Lies, and Quibbles: Is Media Literacy the Only Solution?"

As our society remains a mute spectator to a post-truth world where truth is being distorted, lies manufactured and façades erected to serve power yearnings, and click-bait headlines, sensationalism, and yellow journalism have become the norm of the day, what role does media literacy play in reforming the situation? While at face value, the concept seems like an ideal solution; would the implications be dire on the credibility and consequently the watchdog role of the fourth estate?

The event will be graced by four distinguished speakers who shall be addressing the above-mentioned theme and disseminating knowledge to the students. The speakers include Mr. Danish Manzoor (Editorial Director, International Business Times), Ms. Damayanti Datta (Consultant Editor, Outlook Group), Ms. Puja Banerjee (Editorial Consultant/Senior Correspondent, Millennium Post) and Mr. Dhiraj Shetty (Deputy Editor, The Hindu).

The university organizes a variety of conclaves to enhance the students' learning experience. Communiqué XUB is one such conclave aimed at providing an enriching interactive session with respect to pertinent issues in media.
