Almost two years after Amazon introduced its Alexa voice assistant in India, the company brought Hindi and Hinglish capabilities to its voice assistant Alexa to make deeper inroads in the Hindi-speaking population in India.

Since the launch of Alexa in India in 2017, there have various attempts to localize the voice assistant lie equipping it with the skills to pronounce the toughest names and places in numerous regional languages.

With this latest update, Alexa can understand customers speaking in Hindi or Hinglish, in different contexts, and varied regional accents as well as dialects.

It will be able to understand commands like Bollywood ke latest gane sunao", "jokes", "shayaris",  "Kabir ke dohe" "cricket score batao", "sher ki aawaaz sunao", or "Alexa, apne baare mei batao".

Existing Echo customers can change their device language to Hindi by using language options inside the device settings on the app. But all this will work only when conversing with the Alexa using Echo family of speakers, and not Fire TV Stick or Alexa app.

An upcoming feature will bring the ability to speak to Alexa in Hindi and English without making a change in the language settings every time. Like, you ask for the weather in Hindi, Alexa will reply in Hindi.
