As a front runner of the global healthcare industry, herbal medicine has not only rejuvenated the quality of human life but has also nurtured the animal healthcare industry with its rich offering  by the flare-up of various animal diseases, surging cattle farming practices, increased pet adoption and mounting demands for quality products in line with animal feed additives, hygiene management products, vaccines etc are making the animal healthcare market very appealing to  herbal health care leaders. While the global healthcare market has been anticipated to register a CAGR of 7% during 2015-2020, the animal healthcare market of India is estimated to grow at around 10% CAGR by 2020.  With its legacy dating back to the 1950s, Natural Remedies Pvt. Years later, a rough patch came in Shri Ramlal's life when his beloved horse died who could have been treated by the herbs which he was dealing in. This bitter memory and closely observing the plight of farmers in treating animal diseases stimulated him to fill this gap and cure the ailments of the Animal Health Care industry by infusing the infusing the knowledge of Ayurveda. An animal wellbeing innovation which was fostered by the guidelines of philanthropist Shri Ramlal Agarwal and a simple mission successfully chartered its business endeavour with three initial animal health products. This humaneness of Shri Ramlal Agarwal, the founder of India's #1 Animal Healthcare leader reflects his simplicity, sensivitiy and devotion he held for the world. Later, the organization expanded its portfolio and applied its prowess across the human healthcare domain, which today accounts for 20% of the organization's turnover

Shouldering the responsibility of carrying the legacy to newer heights, Shri Ramlal Agarwal's son Mr R.K. Agarwal instituted a small-scale R&D facility in Bangalore in 1970 where the skilled professionals integrated traditional knowledge of herbs and modern science for creating breakthrough products to meet the emerging needs of the human and animal healthcare industry. A walk of words with the leader

In a talk with Mr Anurag Agarwal, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer

You have been at the helm of Natural Remedies for two decades and in leadership position from last 6 years. If you were to reflect on this period of your life, what would be your most satisfying memories?

I've seen the organization evolving constantly i.e. from 20 people to 500 people in 20 years.  We did face complex challenges at every turn of our journey but our desire to overcome them was strengthened with values like, evolve & improve, and remaining useful to society while doing the business.   Over the period of time, my personal transformation happened as CEO of the organization, who started believing that if we take care of people, their development, making their journey fulfilling while they are with us, will achieve more productive results for the organization instead of merely a task completion. Topicure, the largest wound care product on the market which takes care of more than 50Lkah animals per year gives us a sense of satisfaction in delivering top-notch products.

Another memory of mine is starting human health extract business – we first researched about Indian herbs & their utility in comparison to European or other countries. Backed by thorough scientific research, we created standards for herbs & contributed to different pharmacopoeias of the world to deliver better healthcare solutions.

Is there a passion that this fills for you personally?

Every individual has something unique to offer & my desire is to help people in expressing their quality & contributing towards a powerful team.  My passion is to shift everyone around me from competition to collaboration & I feel delighted when I see people collaborating instead of competition & winning for self.

To start by looking back, what do you think sprouted as the major change in the Indian Animal Health Industry in the last 20 years?

Globally now the trend is to move towards phytogenic products & in the coming 5-10 years, natural products are going to be on a completely different level. Europe has started experiencing this change from 2006 onwards & India is about to experience this wave.

How has the responsibility of being the Managing Director over a period of time changed you as a person?

We moved from a family owned business to a professionally run organization and introduced system driven processes, standards & structures to compete with the best of the companies. This shift needed a constant evolution of myself as a person & this could not have been possible without the guidance of my mentors, Mr Badri Agarwal & Mr Aroon Raman. Also, my meditation has helped me to evolve as a better human being- it has increased my ability to think, ability to respond instead of reacting and has contributed to shaping my life.

Mr Agarwal, how satisfying it is to be a philanthropist?

My life feels different now- I'm full of energy to add something new to the environment; something which will help our people in the organization to transform themselves in the right direction and that is the most satisfying part of my journey. People should enjoy their journey with us & our existence should add value to everyone associated with us.

What have been your biggest rewards during this journey of thinking beyond business and doing the best for the society?

Happiness Self satisfaction and peace of mind

Some consider it to be their responsibility to give back to the community and it goes deeper than an angle. A simple question, how to be the change?

For me, it's a joy to give by creating happiness while adding value or being useful to our surroundings. Creating joy is extremely satisfying & fulfilling for us & we want to cascade this to each & everyone associated to us. One should start by living a life which is useful to others & I want to practice this by myself & creating an example to spread this practice.

Anything else that I didn't ask that would be wise advice to aspiring entrepreneurs.

In my personal opinion, do things which are good for the society or for everyone while you achieve your business goals. This is far more satisfying & fulfilling than merely chasing a business target or making money

Recently, Mr Anurag Agarwal has been acknowledged with prestigious 'Inspirational Leader Awards 2018' at UK-Asia Business Awards & Conclave, London.

Walking towards a bright future

"Now globally there is a trend of moving towards Herbal/natural products- which is a good scenario for us as it's our forte. We are looking for huge growth in our international business as our products are already established in terms of quality & consistency.  We just need to put a step further to make most of the business with those in global markets & get established as the most preferred brands in the herbal/natural category."

The organization is working in parallel to address these growing demands with best quality products & consistent results. With its lined-up plans for future, Natural Remedies is strengthening its Marketing Strategy Approach to place the company in a totally different market leadership footing. Natural Remedies' future plans are angled to invest in People, Culture and Organizational structure, reflecting the long-term aspirations & works as support to complete those requirements.

Unfolding its roadmap towards bright future, Natural Remedies envisions ushering all its key brands to Best-of Class levels against the key competing brands. At Natural Remedies, the organizational culture where everyone – be it, employees, customers, or partners – feels valued and respected is strongly merged to the business goals and the company is aiming to double its revenues by the year 2021
