In a world where lives are busier than ever, health is often overlooked until something goes seriously wrong. Chronic illnesses like diabetes and heart disease are becoming all too common, affecting millions of people globally. This alarming trend has highlighted the need for a shift in focus from reactive to proactive healthcare. That’s where preventive healthcare comes in—a proactive approach focused on early intervention and wellness to combat these growing health concerns. Leading the way in this transformative journey is Elixir Wellness, a pioneering company dedicated to reshaping the healthcare landscape in India by prioritising preventive care. Founded by Tanya Khubchandani Vatsa, Elixir Wellness is committed to bridging the gap in preventive healthcare and providing cutting-edge services that emphasise general well-being.
Elixir Wellness was founded with a mission to provide holistic and comprehensive care to every client who walks through its doors. Tanya’s journey towards wellness began with a realisation of the need for preventive care to avert the onset of chronic conditions.
Tanya holds a Master’s in Public Health from Columbia University and degrees in economics, psychology, and English from the University of Pennsylvania. Combining this with her personal health struggles with PCOS and her parent’s battles with diabetes and cancer to fuel her passion for wellness, she established Elixir Wellness in 2021.
The inspiration stemmed from her experience working at her family’s cancer hospital during the lockdown. Witnessing the growing disease burden, Tanya felt a strong urge to shift the focus of healthcare in India from acute to preventive care. Reflecting on her years working in primary care in New York, she said, “The way healthcare is provided here is very different from what it is overseas. My goal was to introduce methods and resources that strengthen immunity and promote health resilience in India.”
After a rigorous process of research, formulation, and testing, Elixir Wellness launched its first service line, IV Therapy, in March 2022, with a vision to transform healthcare in India. What began as a small-scale healthcare and wellness startup at a dialysis centre has grown quickly to become a network of 27 doctor-managed IV therapy centres around India and three clinics in Mumbai offering aesthetics, sports recovery, and fat loss services.
Elixir Wellness offers a comprehensive range of services that cater to recovery, skin care, preventive care, and anti-ageing. The company is a one-stop shop for clients seeking holistic treatment to achieve their wellness goals. “Our approach is to treat each patient individually, offering tailored solutions that encompass everything from IV therapy, cryotherapy, and hyperbaric oxygen to body toning and non-invasive facelifts,” says Tanya.
Elixir Wellness prides itself on being the first in the country to offer a medical-grade hyperbaric oxygen therapy unit focusing on recovery and sports rehabilitation. “We also provide rejuvenation, genomics, orthopaedic care, pain relief, and platelet-rich plasma treatments, among other advanced dermatology and wellness services,” adds Tanya. Within just two years of their founding, Elixir Wellness has served over 30,000 clients, including prominent names like Soha Ali Khan, Michael Vaughn, John Gloster, Shehnaz Treasurywala, Simone Khambatta, and Shrima Rai.
The wellness industry faces significant challenges with the rise of unlicensed and unregulated competitors offering IV therapies, PRP, botox, and fillers without medical supervision, often at dangerously low prices. Tanya notes, “While many clients recognise the value and safety of our services, these unregulated competitors pose a risk to safety and industry reputation.” At Elixir Wellness, every prescription and treatment is carefully customised and supervised by qualified doctors to ensure quality and safety.
Elixir Wellness distinguishes itself through its comprehensive and customised medical care. “We tailor each treatment to the individual’s needs, goals, and medical history,” says Tanya. Unlike competitors with preset packages, Elixir Wellness offers only what is necessary, with a multidisciplinary team covering every aspect of care, from nutrition and mental health to dermatology and internal medicine. The company also ensures top-notch quality and customer satisfaction with a dedicated care team. Tanya explains, “We focus on delivering an exceptional in-clinic experience and attentive follow-up care,” supported by regular staff training and strict quality protocols.
At Elixir Wellness, the company culture is a balance between the agility of a startup and the precision required in healthcare. Tanya explains, “Although we’re a startup, as a service-oriented healthcare company, our team needs to be both meticulous and professional.” She adds, “Elixir is also a fun place to work, where we focus a lot on employee well-being, team dynamics, and satisfaction.” Tanya notes, “The changing workforce dynamics and attention span of the younger generation require a strategic approach.” The company has implemented a system of rewards, employee satisfaction measures, and staff events to keep the team engaged. “Finding the right balance took some time,” Tanya admits, “but diversifying our team with different age brackets and a more balanced gender mix has positively impacted staff retention.”
Elixir Wellness has experienced remarkable growth, expanding from a single centre to 27 locations in just 18 months. Tanya reflects, “Our rapid expansion has been an incredible achievement, but the real success comes from the positive impact we’ve had on our clients.” She shares, “Hearing stories of clients who no longer suffer from migraines, see improvements in their pigmentation, or have lost weight in a healthy way through our programs—that’s the most rewarding part. Knowing we’ve boosted someone’s confidence and well-being makes it all worthwhile.”
At Elixir Wellness, staying ahead of the curve is a priority. The team regularly engages with medical vendors, attends conferences, and participates in training to keep updated with the latest advancements. Tanya emphasises, “We make it a point to keep ourselves apprised through journal studies and educational materials.”
Elixir Wellness is currently focused on launching a range of longevity services. “We’re developing comprehensive protocols that consider everything from allergies, genetics and medical history to lifestyle goals,” says Tanya. These services are designed to improve longevity and lifespan by changing the telomere length of a person, along with dedicated protocols for health, wellness, skin anti-aging, and sports recovery.
“We aim to be the most comprehensive and pioneering wellness, skin, and recovery space across India,” -Tanya.
To anyone entering the wellness industry, Tanya advises to never cut corners to save costs. “Quality is what ultimately stands the test of time,” she emphasises. “There will always be challenges and competition, but if your business ethics are strong and you focus on quality and client outcomes, you will never go wrong.”
She also notes the impact of social media on attention spans, particularly among the youth. “Thanks to social media and 15-second stories, our attention spans have shrunk, affecting not just browsing habits but also jobs and relationships.” “Entrepreneurship or even working with start-ups or small businesses – will not give you a linear curve, she adds. Tanya concludes, “There will be ups and downs and a learning curve, which requires patience and commitment. So, hang in there, and don’t give up so easily—on the people you work with or on your own dreams.”
