Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan is considered as one of the most recognized and influential Indian thinkers. Born in Tamil Nadu, he was a well-known teacher, philosopher, and statesman. Radhakrishnan was the first Vice President of India; he had severed from 1952 to 1962. In the second tenure, he was serving India during 1962-1967. Radhakrishnan was an eloquent spokesperson and used to stand in the support of Indian culture and religion. In 1904, He married Sivakamuamma and had five daughters and a son.
Dr Radhakrishnan got scholarships throughout his academic life. Firstly, he joined Voorhees College in Vellore but then moved to the Madras Christian College. He graduated from there in 1906 with a Master's degree in Philosophy, is one of its most distinguished alumni.
The career of Dr Radhakrishnan was started in 1918 when he had become a professor at Mysore University. He was appointed as King George V Chair of Mental and Moral Science at the University of Calcutta from 1921–1931 and 1937 to 1944. In 1931 he was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Andhra Pradesh University. He was also a professor of western philosophy at andhra university where with Indian philosophy, he was also spalding professor of eastern religion and ethics at the university of oxford University in the year 1936. Dr Radhakrishnan was the first Indian to be appointed the Vice-Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University. In 1938, he was elected as a fellow of the British Academy. In 1947, the man with idealist view of life represented India at UNESCO.

Though Radhakrishnan was on the top position of the country, still he was to the ground person and the day Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was born reminds us of that. When he positioned as the President of the country, his followers and friends said him to let them celebrate his birthday, on 5 September. But he said that instead of celebrating my birthday, it would be my proud privilege if September 5th is celebrated as teachers day. His life represents a perfect bridge between East and West.
