On September 7, 2022, Apple announced its iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus during the Apple event, “Far Out.” The new phones are quite similar in design to their predecessors, and one can easily mistake one for the other apart from the 6.7-inch larger model.
Although there are minor external changes between iPhone 13 and iPhone 14, there are several quality-of-life improvements and user-facing updates.
Even in this device class, Apple has followed its approach of identical feature sets across models, so there is no significant difference in the features of the base and pro models apart from the display size and battery life. Apple’s iPhone 14 generation is missing the mini model owing to the lack of demand for smaller-sized phones.
Apart from the slight changes in color, the iPhone 14 looks almost identical to iPhone 13. The diagonal rear camera, notch, and aluminum chassis remain the same. It has a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display at 460ppi.
The iPhone 14 Plus, although a newer model but has all the aspects of the smaller version. The only difference is the 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR display at 458ppi. The only thing lacking is the ProMotion that the pro model has.
The display of the iPhone 14 supports HDR, True Tone and has a P3 color gamut same as in iPhone 13. The OLED display provides 800 nits of brightness in normal use and a 2 million to 1 contrast ratio.
The US version of the iPhone 14 sees a noticeable change in the design by going all-in on e-SIM support and lacks a SIM card tray. Users don't have to worry about physical cards anymore.
In the iPhone 14, Apple has made updates to the newly dubbed Main Camera. It now has a larger 12MP sensor with a wider f/1.5 aperture which enables faster low-light performance and higher quality photos. Apple claims to have a 49% improvement in picture quality in low light.
Apple has improved the front camera with an f/1.9 aperture and autofocus. Combined with the depth sensors used for Face ID, users can now take better selfies faster than before.
The new iPhone features satellite connectivity for emergency purposes. Apple created special antennas and equipment for the iPhones to connect satellites miles above the ground without an antenna module.
Another great feature of the Apple iPhone 14 generation is Crash Detection. It can detect severe car crashes, then call emergency services and notify your emergency contacts.
Apple claims an improved battery life in iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. During normal use, the iPhone 14 can last up to 20 hours, and iPhone 14 Plus can last up to 26 hours.
iPhone 14 and iPhone Plus are available in blue, purple, midnight, starlight, and (PRODUCT)RED. The storage option can be configured to 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB. The pricing for iPhone 14 series starts at Rs 79,900 for the non-Pro models and Rs 1,29,900 for the Pro models in India.
