Devayani Gaikwad, a first-generation entrepreneur in her family. With a Masters degree and solid foundation in Mechanical Engineering, her passion for innovation was sparked by her husband’s work in the government’s power sector. Further accompanied by her younger brother Rugved, she founded Urja Group, driven by a mission to revolutionise the solar and renewable energy landscape. Rugved is also an Electrical Engineer with specialised training in Renewable Energy.

Starting from the modest town of Aurangabad in Maharashtra, Urja Group’s journey has been nothing short of remarkable. Under the dynamic leadership of Rugved and Devayani, the company has evolved from a small entrepreneurial venture into a leading provider of renewable energy solutions across India. Milestones & Achievements

Urja Group has achieved significant milestones in Power and the renewable energy sector through diligent work and dedication. Recently, the company successfully completed the construction, power evacuation, and metering and secured all statutory approvals for the 25 MW solar plant project with Mahagenco-Tata Power Solar in Maharashtra. Their exceptional quality and efficiency in project execution have earned them praise from numerous clients.

URJA GROUP has collaborated with leading Solar Pump Tier 1 OEM and System Integrators like Tata, Oswal, CRI, Adani, Shakti under Government of India PM KUSUM Scheme. Total 10000 Off Grid Agricultural Solar pumps installed by URJA GROUP in the last 5 years. Moreover, they have established state of the art Solar Pumping Service Centre and warehouse for inventory of spare parts for all these farmers and their Solar Pump suppliers at Aurangabad in the heart of Maharashtra. Their Farmer centric CRM and Complaint management system takes care of all the complaints of Farmers regarding their solar pumps. They have 20000 Pumps under Annual AMC and solved 7850 complaints promptly in time bound manner in last 5 years.

What Lies Ahead for Urja Group

“We see a very bright future for the solar and renewable energy industry, particularly with the global focus on Net Zero and ESG,” says Rugved. “Solar energy’s abundance, advancing technology, and cost-effectiveness will drive its growth. We are

expanding into the B2C segment, targeting MSMEs, banks, hospitals, and institutions with our Solar PPA Model for consumers with less than 1 MVA loads, an underserved and untapped market.”

Government policies and regulations deeply influence Urja Group’s operations. Rugved emphasises, “There’s a need for innovative financing solutions for Tier-II renewable energy players and support implementing invoice discounting mechanisms to enhance cash flow.”

Also, Tier I infrastructure players should consider hidden costs of idling at Large projects beyond control of Tier II vendors while awarding contracts downline. MSME Players in Tier II are financially vulnerable and affects badly by transferring such costs on them when working at such a low premium and margins. He also calls for streamlined online clearance of statutory approvals with clear timelines and accountability at all levels, believing these measures would significantly support the growth of India’s renewable energy sector.

Highlighting Urja Group’s strategic direction, Devayani adds, “Urja Group aims to become a leading service provider and channel partner for Tier I EPC players, OEMs in upcoming projects like the Agricultural Feeder Solarisation Scheme under KUSUM C of the Government of India, and C&I Open Access PPA Projects across the solar project value chain.
