Rahul Vasisht: spreading health & wellness through RSV hospital

Healthcare has become one of India's largest sectors – both in terms of revenue and employment. Healthcare comprises of hospitals, medical devices, clinical trials, outsourcing, telemedicine, medical tourism, health insurance and medical equipment.

The Indian healthcare sector is growing at a brisk pace due to its strengthening coverage, services and increasing expenditure by public as well private players. Indian healthcare delivery system is categorised into two major components – public and private.

The Government, i.e. public healthcare system comprises limited secondary and tertiary care institutions in key cities and focuses on providing basic healthcare facilities in the form of primary healthcare centres (PHCs) in rural areas.

The private sector provides majority of secondary, tertiary and quaternary care institutions with a major concentration in metros, tier I and tier II cities. India's competitive advantage lies in its large pool of well-trained medical professionals.

India is also cost competitive compared to its peers in Asia and Western countries. The cost of surgery in India is about one-tenth of that in the US or Western Europe.

Key Elements Marketing Solutions

Kindly introduce yourself

I am the co-founder and director of RSV Hospital Private Limited. I am an M.B.A from Newcastle Business School, United Kingdom.

Through my M.B.A I have a specialisation in Global and Trans-national Business, Finance and Marketing. I graduated in the top 3% of my class and was awarded a 'commendation' with my final M.B.A degree.

Before this, I completed my schooling from St. Xavier's Collegiate School Calcutta and have completed my B. Com from St. Xavier's college, Calcutta.

I have a great inclination towards the fields of healthcare as well as of leadership and entrepreneurship and constantly update myself on the different developments in these subjects throughout the world on a regular basis.

I am greatly fascinated by the different possible advantages which can be gained through the synergy between these subjects.

What motivated you to start your venture? How did the thought come up?

My family originally comes from a real estate background in the city of Kolkata. This being said, my family and myself had decided together that should an opportunity present itself, we would like to undertake a project by way of giving back to our city and its people.

Therefore, with this noble intention, we ventured into healthcare by setting up this hospital. The main mission of RSV Hospital is to provide the most sophisticated and comprehensive medical care at an affordable price.

Our Hospital endeavours to become a quality healthcare institution where the finest medical talents will work with state-of-the-art machines to preserve, prolong and restore life.

In a digital world, how will mobility change healthcare?

I genuinely believe that the future enhancements which are being developed in the digital world will provide substantial opportunities to enhance the healthcare scenario on a global scale. To this effect, I can site three very relevant examples:

a) Gathering Health Data:

Many individuals lead very busy and demanding lives. To this effect, they rarely have time to schedule even a simple health check up with their doctors.

Through the use of health mobile devices, it would become easier to record the different parameters of their health, in a digital format in devices similar to the cell phones we use today.

In this way, while the individual goes about their daily routine, specific parameters of their physical and mental state would be recorded on a day to day basis in real time. The same data then can be easily transmitted to their health care provider for proper assessment and evaluation.

b) Unique and Customised Mode of Treatment:

The healthcare world is rapidly moving towards the introduction of customised treatment towards patients. Health providers have realised that each individual has a unique constitution which separates them from others.

Therefore, when health data is collected on an individual basis, they will soon be in a position to provide unique and special treatments which cater to a single individual.

Thus, the treatment of each person shall be unique to them. This in turn would allow the patients to recover better and in a shorter period of time.

c) General Public Health:

The ultimate aim of introducing mobility in healthcare is that it must be readily available to a large number of the general population.  Sooner than later, health data devices and applications will become more easily available to the large population.

This would allow individual data to be collected by government agencies as well.

This would further allow the data collected to be analysed and hopefully lead to the formation and implementation of different policies, which would benefit and enhance general public health in the long term.

What are the reasons for your success? What does it take to become a successful entrepreneur?

The transparency maintained in all aspects in our organisation whether that is in the treatment of patients or providing proper healthcare at an affordable price. RSV is a learning hospital.

We keep a close eye on the developments in global healthcare, so as to keep ourselves up to date with the latest improvements in the healthcare world and pay special attention to adapt them to local needs and implement the same.

More importantly, RSV Hospital will go out of the way to make the patients stay as comfortable as possible. Proper consultation and care by our nursing and staff are paramount to the success of our Hospital.

Our state-of-the-art modern infrastructure and specially our focus on the smallest details have all helped in making RSV hospital a popular choice with the people of the state of West Bengal.

To become a successful entrepreneur, an individual must have three basic elements. The first is the belief in one's own ability. The second is never to give up and be persistent till the objective is achieved and fulfilled.

And the third is to realise that there are no shortcuts to success, we all will achieve only as much as we have invested towards the achievement of our goals. In the end above all else, be true to your own self.

What advice would you give for future 'Doctorprenuers'?

The only advice which I can give is: if you wish to have a future in the healthcare industry, you must put the comfort and proper treatment of your patients as your number one priority. You must treat all your staff and employees with respect and provide them an opportunity to improve themselves.

And finally, you must be flexible and able to adapt and overcome the various different situations that you will face in your daily operation of your organisation through the combined teamwork of yourself and your senior management (partners). If you are able to do this you can be rest assured of a successful innings as a 'Doctorprenuer'
