Rediscover Yourself and Get One Step Closer to Healthy Living with Yoga

21st June is celebrated as an International Yoga Day with an aim to raise awareness worldwide about the advantages of practicing yoga. Yoga is that method which purifies your body as well as mind after eliminating the toxins from them. It empowers us to take up the challenges in life however harsh the hurdles may be; it is the exploration of the self through the self to the self. This year, Yoga Day will be observed the 5th time. And, the theme of this World Yoga Day will be ”Yoga for Heart”.

The story behind the Initiation of Yoga Day

On December 11, 2014, the United Nations General Assembly announced that June 21 will be marked as International Yoga Day or World Yoga Day.  Launching a particular date of practicing yoga all across the world and celebrating as yoga day was begun by the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi to the United Nations General Assembly. This declaration was done after his call to the United Nations General Assembly on 27th of September in 2014 during his address to the UN General Assembly.  He calls the United Nations General Assembly for adopting 21st of June as an International Yoga Day to get all the benefits of yoga for the people all around the world. And, since 2015, International Yoga Day is been celebrated worldwide.

The first time, World Yoga Day was celebrated on 21st June 2015 in different parts of the world. On this day, around 35985 people from more than 85 countries participated & practiced yoga at Rajpath, New Delhi. On the same day, more than 20 million people practiced yoga in the United States.

History of Yoga

In India, yoga is considered to be around 5,000-year-old mental, physical, and spiritual practice. It was originated in the country in ancient time when people used to do meditation to transform their body and mind. It is considered as one of the most effective methods of establishing a connection between the body and mind.

Yoga Day outside of India

Apart from India, World Yoga Day is celebrated with great enthusiasm and courage in other parts of the world as well. People from more than 170 countries including USA, China, and Canada practice Yoga to mark this day. The primary focus behind celebrating Yoga Day is to make this ancient practice more popular among people in different parts of the world.
