National Unity Day
National unity day, also known as the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas is celebrated on the occasion of birth anniversary of Sardar vallabhbhai Patel. Rashtriya Ekta Diwas was introduced by the government in the year 2014 and now this day is celebrated every year on 31st October to honour the life of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and his dream of unified India.
Because of his strong beliefs he was able to unite the people of India to work as a single unit towards the development of our country. This year, it will be the 144th birth anniversary of the great Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Rashtriya Ekta Diwas is the day when we celebrate the unity of India in order to pay tribute to the legend of India Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. We acknowledge the efforts made by him to unite our country.
On this day a marathon is organized all over the nation to generate awareness for Rashtriya Ekta Diwas and remember the workings of this great man. Annual celebration of this day also allows youth to be an important part of this country and make a difference.
People of India also learn that in order to defeat any kind of threat to our country we need to be united and think, talk and walk as a unified nation.
Government of India organises various events for the people of India. All the political leaders and the general public pay floral tribute to the statue of Sardar Patel at Patel Chowk in New Delhi.
A huge statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was also created by the government in Gujarat to honour his work and that statue is called "The Statue of Unity" and it is known to be the biggest statue in the world.
Programmes like run for unity, pledge taking ceremony and march past by police officials are organized by the government of India.
Run for unity event is organized at a very huge level where all the youths of schools, colleges, universities, National Cadet Corps and many more take part. All of them run from Vijay Chowk to India Gate early morning and pay tribute to the great man of India.
Second programme is pledge taking ceremony which is organized in every government offices and public sectors. A pledge is taken to stay united as a team and as a nation and remembers the efforts of Sardar Patel.
Third important event which is organized by the government of India is March past by police (central armed forces which includes home guards, NSS, NCC, scouts, guides etc.). This is performed on the streets of metro cities and after the march a pledge taking ceremony is conducted.
Schools, colleges and every educational institution celebrates this day by doing some cultural activities like poster and banner making, essay writing, speech and poem reciting, paintings, quiz competitions, debates on relevant topics etc.
The prime objective of all these events is to develop and maintain a sense of unity and integrity among the people of our nation.
On the special request of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, a special notice has been sent to the schools under CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) to participate in this pledge.
In this, all the Neabhouring School under CBSE will unite at their respective centres to take the pledge. With this pledge taking ceremony various other activities will also be conducted to maintain peace and a healthy environment.
