What To Look in Web Hosting Company?

Starting a new business online or reinventing yourself, A very important aspect of a website is its hosting, basically like a place for online store on the internet. And like any other business decision, you have a ton of options when it comes hosting service provider to allocate the space on the web server for your website.

Here you go:

Understand the type of hosting you require for your business, a crucial factor before understanding what should a web hosting provider should offer.

Well, this is the primary thing, website hosting is the amount of space allocated on a server for your website. It can be a shared, dedicated, VPS and reseller, which is differentiated by the kind of technology used for the server, the level of management provided and the additional services on offer.

Just like various factors impact the success of your offline workspace, in the online world, different type of website hosting impacts the website and user experience. The website represents your brand, for many businesses, it is also a platform to yield business leads and sales, hence you need a good website hosting service provider to keep your website loading quickly and reliably for your visitors.

Shared Hosting:

As the name suggest, shared hosting is where you share a server with other websites where all domains share the same server resources, such as RAM (Random Access Memory) and CPU (Central Processing Unit).

Pros

  • Cheapest Option
  • Require no technical assistance
  • A great option available for an entry-level website hosting which many small business owners, community group, or people desire to start your blog.

Cons

  • Less security
  • Less control over the website

VPS hosting:

VPS or Virtual Private Server Hosting is an ultimate middle ground between a shared hosting and a dedicated hosting. VPS allows each website is hosted within its own space on the server, though it still shares a physical server with other users.

Pros

  • More scope for customization
  • More storage

Cons

  • Ability to handle the major high traffic spikes
  • The website can get affected by the other sites on the server.

Dedicated Server Hosting:

A dedicated hosting plan is a great option for the websites that expect high traffic and level of security as it allows website owners the most control over the server that their website is stored on because the server is exclusively rented by you and your website is the only one stored on it.

Pros

  • Full root and admin access
  • Control to everything from your operating system
  • Control over security

Cons

  • Expensive Option
  • A high level of technical expertise required

Cloud Hosting:

Cloud hosting, a web hosting which uses different servers to balance the load and maximum uptime while it means many computers working together, running applications using combined computing resources.

  • Pros
  • The hosting solution works via a network and enables companies to consume the computing resource like a utility.
  • It allows users to employ as many resources without doing capital investment on their computing infrastructure.
  • The resources that are being used are spread across several servers, reducing the chance of any downtime due to a server malfunction.

Cons

  • The cost of data recovery outweighs the benefits if you are not dependent on uptime and instant recovery.
  • If the internet connection is lost on the organisation side or cloud side, you won’t have access to any of your information.

Managed hosting:

You will find many hosting packages in your search for the one in the market to be managed one. Yes, a hosting provider managing your system and offering you with technical services such as hardware and software setup and configuration, maintenance, hardware replacement, technical support, patching, updating and monitoring.

Pros

  • The day-to-day management of the hardware, operating systems and standardised applications is taken care of by the provider.
  • It is one of the time-saving ways to have a website hosting.
  • You do not require a high level of technical skills.

Cons

  • The outsourcing limits you in terms of security.

Colocation:

A data centre facility in which a business can rent space for servers and other computing hardware. This co-located centre provides the power, bandwidth, IP address and cooling systems that your server requires in rented racks and cabinets.

Pros:

  • Access to higher levels of bandwidth than a normal office server room at a much lower cost.

Cons:

  • Technical skills will be required as you’re left to your own devices (literally) and will be expected to take care of everything including the hardware, software and services.

Which website hosting service provider is best for you?

Apart from the type of plan you think is best suited for your website and business, there are many website service providers to choose from as well as offering distinct plans. Each plan caters to the specifications of different groups and realizing what are your needs from a website will help you ensure that you’re choosing the right plan for you and your business. You should consider a website hosting service provider who:

Had a strong reputation in the industry: Look for reviews by actual customers, as you have already evaluated which type of hosting is best suited for your company type, you must go through the reviews by brands who are similar to your brand, like say a small business, or a e-commerce brand, etc.

They offer a variety of plans: different hosting packages with room to grow is essential especially if you have big dreams for your brand and you aim to grow. You may at some point want to upgrade to VPS hosting, cloud hosting and possible even a dedicated hosting, so make sure they have these plans.

Customer Service: For every brand online, it is essential that the website is available and efficient for users. In a scenario where you cannot risk disappointing the users with your website, a constant 24/7 customer service by the web hosting service provider should be a priority.

The right price: Even though the web hosting service provider industry is a competitive one, there are many brands which have gained the reputation and in search, make sure you compare prices of different plans by different providers to find a plan that is worth it.

A simple and intuitive account interface: Be it you or your technical team which is managing the hosting, an intuitive interface with all the web management tasks allows the domain name management, setting up redirects, managing your SSL, managing your domains= email addresses, adding new applications or databases to your website, etc.

Choose Your Web Host who offers you these services and of course some tutorials to get you started and security assurance won’t hurt. So, get started!

Define Success? For business leaders and entrepreneurs, it is accomplishing the desired results. It is no shocker today if I tell you today your brand’s success is interrelated with your web presence. Having said that, there are many tools you may use to ensure that your prospective customers and present target audience become a loyal clientele by forming that connect which websites are built for and to help you achieve this desired result, Alexa ranking is essential.

WHAT IS ALEXA RANK?

Alexa rank is a website that enables you to understand every aspect of your website. It includes measuring your website’s popularity as well as if your which element website is allowing or not allowing users to stay on your website longer and yield essential information or buy your products and services.

HOW DOES ALEXA RANK WORK AND HOW IS ALEXA RANK CALCULATED?

The global platform that ranks millions of websites in order of popularity on bases of estimated average daily unique visitors and number of page views for a given the site over the past 3 months.

So, the focus is on ensuring a lower Alexa rank that represents a more popular website and here is the solution. We have curated content to help you understand how everything there is to know about the Alexa rank, how it is calculated and how to improve it.

Traffic and engagement are estimated from data provided by its toolbar. This monitors a user browsing behaviour which acts as a sample of all Internet users.

The company founded back in 1969 receives data for its ranking system based on traffic from its “global data panel”. You become a part of the panel and as one continues to visit websites as “visitors” and use one of the browser extensions available for Google Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer etc.

The Alexa ranking algorithm audits a site and calculates the frequency of visits. If the same user visits a website more than once on the same day, it is counted as a single visit.

Parameters used to measure a site’s ranking are unique daily visitors and average pageviews which is the number of times a particular page or URL is viewed by Alexa users.

ALL THE BUZZ AROUND THE ALEXA RANKING, IS IT EVEN ACCURATE?

Check the image below for a few pros and cons of Alexa Ranks

Although Alexa rank can be a good way to compare one website’s performance against another’s, Alexa’s statistics are not necessarily the most accurate. Well, Alexa has gained its wone reputation but it does have its pros and cons.

One of the biggest cons of the platform is that the ranking is the result of the users using Alexa ranking browser extension and visiting websites. Hence f you go ahead and compare it with other platforms say Google Analytics, you may find that Google has better accuracy because it has much wider coverage than Alexa, as not everyone will have the Alexa toolbar installed to track.

HOW CAN I CHECK A WEBSITE’S ALEXA RANKING?

Well, it is a simple process, just visit Alexa’s official rank checker, put the URL of the site you want to check and hit find.

This platform does have cons and limitations, it also holds the potential to attract higher quality guest writers wanting to contribute articles to higher ranked sites, allow you to analyse your competition, and also have an insight into the performance of your website.

Having mentioned that you can view where your brand stands, it is also essential to tell you how can you put Alexa Ranking to use:

START WORKING TOWARDS ALEXA RANK

While manipulation of the Alexa ranking is possible, it counts as a con. Hence, one should focus on improving the website’s Alexa rank without manipulating it. Here are some useful tips:

1 Optimize Your Website’s Meta Data

It is one of the cores of on-page SEO practices. You should focus on adding metadata i.e. TUD (page titles + meta descriptions) to your site so that Alexa (and Google) knows what your site is about.

2. Write Content For People

It is essential to understand what and whom are you writing for. Are they businessman, young people, old people, or engineers, they can be anyone, and then focus on the fact that you want to attract people to your website with high-quality content is great for numerous reasons.

3 Continue Delivering with Better Experience

While monitoring the Alexa rankings, focus on keeping your site updated with fresh content (that people want to read). It is important to improve engagement by producing useful content regularly.

4 Share Your Content on Social Media

Communication with the target audience cannot become more candid and direct today with the presence of social media being there. So, all that you have created for your website is a part of your online identity and you should promote it on relevant social media channels where your target audience hangs out.

Online businesses have various online marketing tool to connect with their audience, while email marketing, SMS marketing and many others have over the years proved to be effective. But with the rapid changes in the digital ecosystem and constant birth of the new technologies, today, web notifications have taken over. For users, it is a quick and efficient way to get all the recent information without having to open the website and read all the details.

This explains why web notifications is a powerful and effective tool especially for the e-commerce platforms to reach out to your website visitors, interact with them, keep them updated with any important information, announcing sales and offers, and eventually driving more eCommerce conversions.

For people who themselves use the e-commerce platforms to shop are very well aware of how they try to interact through push notifications. If you are not aware of what web push notifications are and how web notifications increase website visitors, we have created a brief and simple guide. Let’s get started:

WHAT EXACTLY ARE WEB PUSH NOTIFICATIONS?

Basically, as a brand, web push notifications or browser push notifications are exactly what you are looking for. These better “open and click-through rates” providing tool are messages or notifications that are delivered to the subscriber’s device in real-time even when the user is not present at your website but has his internet connection working.

The entirely permission-based engagement work to turn your website visitor into your subscriber and you are ready to send them notifications and make them a part of your eCommerce journey.

HOW WEB PUSH NOTIFICATIONS INCREASE WEBSITE VISITORS?

Here is how the web push notifications can add value to your online business immensely. We will discuss the 7 major benefits of using Web Push Notifications and understand why they are an important marketing aspect:

1. High Opt-in Rate

Unlike Pop-ups that demand users email address to send them newsletters or promotional offers, browser push notifications avoid asking for any customer-related information. All it requires is one single click to begin the process. And this is the reason why they have higher opt-in rate than emails.

In fact, the opt-out rate as well in browser push notifications is very minimal.

It also makes it easy for those visitors who hesitate to share their personal details online. This is often seen with new/first time visitors.

2. Real-time Quick Delivery

Web Push Notifications create instant communication with your subscribed audience. Any message or update gets delivered to the subscribers as soon as the information is initiated to be sent from the back-end. This gives you a high real-time reach.

So when you are planning to announce a flash sale, website push notifications can prove to be beneficial in that case.

3. Higher Engagement

Unlike Email or SMS where the URL to redirect the user to the desired location is mentioned inside the content, Web Push Notifications requires just one tap to take the user to the specified URL.

If you can entice your audience with your notification headline, you would surely receive higher engagement. Create triggering notifications that grab user attention and avoid using any click-bait headline.

4. Increase your Website traffic

One of the major benefits of Web Push Notifications is that it gives you a traffic boost. It works best if the message contains something worth the user attention. If it is tempting, you will witness a significant rise in website traffic. If you are running a limited-time sale, Browser Push Notifications can bring high real-time traffic.

5. Turn Visitors into Subscribers and Subscribers into Customers

Web Push Notifications prove to be one of the best ways to bring your subscribers into your store and encourage them to shop. It is the quickest way to grab user attention, unlike emails which sometimes can be skipped or left unopened.

It can be said that visitors who opt to receive notifications like you as a brand. They are impressed with your products or services and this is why they do not want to miss any future update from your end. These prospects will show more potential to purchase as compared to the other users.

6. Increase Conversions

You can ask users to subscribe to specific product-related notifications and notify them later if there is any update. For example, if the product that the user is looking for is out of stock or if they feel the product price is too high, you can ask them to subscribe for the alerts when the product is available again or when the price drops down, respectively.

The subscribers will be notified as soon as the changes reflect in the website regarding the product. Notification related to the fall in the product price or the product back-in-stock creates higher chances of conversion.

So basically you can retarget the users and persuade them to purchase the product which they desired earlier.

7. You don’t need a Mobile App

With web push notifications, you do not need a mobile app to reach out to your subscribers. Moreover, building a mobile app can cost you huge bucks so this cuts down your cost to have a mobile app and provides you with a similar way to communicate with your audience like App push notifications.

The Bottom Line

Web Browser Push Notification is undoubtedly an effective marketing communication channel and what sets this apart from other marketing methods is that it is not restricted to marketing and promotional purpose only. It can be used to deliver useful information, abandoned cart alerts, order status updates, product back-in-stock alerts, etc.

WHAT IS WEB NOTIFICATION?

Ting, “Don’t Miss Out These Trendy Products” or “Enjoy 50% On Your Favourite Coffee”. Every smartphone knows what these are. Yes, these are web notifications most commonly used by many successful e-commerce brands around the globe.

Well, modern problems required modern solutions. While today, a brand’s success is related to the website’s success, web notifications are the effective tool for website promotion backed with its ability to deliver instant, brief, and personalised information to prospective customers.

Web notifications are the alert messages sent to a user via desktop web and mobile web and used by websites that want to update the users about the recent updates, be it news or cart update. I am sure as a consumer you must have pulled down the notification bar on your mobile phones or seen the alerts slide in at the top or bottom right-hand corner of a desktop screen, depending on the operating system and even clicked on them, ending up on the website or webpage.

We have curated a guide for you to know about the most effective information delivery and action generating tool, web push notification:

Are web push notifications and app push notifications different?

Well, as we have discussed, many brands which do not have a mobile application but have a website with web push code installed in it, use it to leverage many of the benefits of push notifications (real-time, personalized, in-the-moment communications) to offer the same user experience even if they don’t have an app.

While the app push notifications are sent via code installed in an app even if you are not on the application or not even operating your phone but your internet connection is on.

WHAT DOES A WEB NOTIFICATION LOOK LIKE?

A web push notification that might pop up on your mobile screen or your desktop may include the following elements:

Notification Title: This title can be inclusive of the brand name or the recent update say ‘Summer Fashion Sale’.

Notification Content: The message sent by the website includes a brief about the topic mentioned in the notification title while the character count may vary between browsers, a crisp and captivating message should be crafted to get the user to click.

Notification URL: While it is not a dominant part of the whole notification, it does highlight the domain sending the web notification.

Notification Icon: This is mostly the brand logo or any image related to the message.

Browser Icon: The logo of the browser sending the notification. While generally browsers like Google Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer are focused displayed in the browser icon, this is included on notifications sent to Apple desktop or laptop computers and cannot be altered or removed.

Working Of Web Notifications

The elements of a web push notification remain the same while its appearance varies by operating system and browser and they work the same as well. Having said that, let us go through the working of the web notifications.

The browser-based notification has different stages crucial to understand how web push notifications work. These stages of the web push notifications are as follows:

Seeking Permission: Well, you must have been the pop-up asking for permission to come on your mobile or desktop screens while operating the websites as users. This pop is the first step in implementing a push notification while it requires sending them with a push message and getting a push subscription from the browser through Subscription Dialog Box or Opt-in box.

A Push Subscription is done with a Push API that gives web applications the ability to receive messages pushed to them from a server and they become a ‘subscriber’. Once Push Subscription is received, the user details are saved at the back-end and are later used to send push messages to that user.

Sending a Push Message: You can open the dashboard or you can use an API call to a respective browser cloud manager to send notifications. While the cloud manager validates and delivers the message to the right browser, Push Subscription helps you get the appropriate URL to trigger the push message.

Push Message arrives on the User’s browser: Once the browser comes online, the push service delivers the message. This is followed by the browser receives the message, decrypts the data, and sends push event to your service worker. The customized website notification will arrive real-time even if the browser is not open at that point of time on the user’s device and it will lead them to URL specified.

Adding Web Notifications To Websites

Well, there are many providers offering web push notification service for your website, a standard procedure of these providers have is signing up, adding your website URL, your brand logo for your customised subscription request, adding generated code for your website which you have to add and then you can start monitoring users and creating campaigns as well.

How to Set Up an Instagram Business Account?

Instagram, a picture-based social media platform that has been geared towards mobile devices. Although the platform is available for smartphones, tablets, and computers through the Apple iOS, Google Play, and Windows app stores, you’ll probably use a smartphone or tablet for most of your posting activity.

Here is a guide to how you can create an effective and impact-creating Instagram account for business:

Create Your Instagram Account

After downloading the application from above-mentioned sources on your preferred device, you create an Instagram account in two ways.

First, you can sign up by filling details like your email address or phone number and then enter a username.

Second, if you have a Facebook account, you can log in with the same information and link the accounts. While by default, you will have a personal profile, if you aim to use Instagram for business, you have to connect your account to a Facebook business page.

Click the profile icon at the bottom right of the screen, then at the top right corner of the page, open the settings menu. It appears as a vertical ellipsis in Android or a gear in iOS.

On the next page, scroll down until you see “Switch to a business profile.” Click through the promo slideshow until you get a prompt to connect to Facebook. Select “Choose a page,” and set the page to “public.” Click “OK.”

Next, Instagram asks for permission to manage your Facebook pages. Look through the list of Facebook business pages you’ve already created. Select the right page, and click “Next.”

Set Up Your Profile

Now, you can finish setting up your profile by entering information including your email, phone number, and address for your business while some information will be auto-filled if it already appears on your Facebook page.

The basic interface of the application allows you to see 5 buttons in the bottom bar, inclusive of home, where you can update your followers, add Instagram stories and see your DMs as well.

This is followed by explore, where Instagrm algorithms work its magic, as you can see posts related to topics that interest you and as a business use that to reach your clients.

Next, there is a cross-shaped “Add” button to add pictures for posting. You can open a gallery from your phone, select the drop-down arrow at the top of the screen to get photos from other sources, such as Google Drive.

The last icon is where you can view your profile, settings and edit the profile as well.

how to build an Instagram Account for business?

Edit Your Profile:

On your profile page, and click “Edit your profile”, add a photo, bio, and website link. It is preferred that you either create a separate personal account or if you have switched from a personal account, change the photo, name, and username to reflect your business.

Well, this Instagram account should represent your brand online, hence, using your brand’s logo and business name makes it easier for customers to find you on Instagram.

Your Instagram bio is an opportunity to put some branded language, links or hashtags in your profile. This brief statement about what your business does or it adds value to the customers in a more casual tone for Instagram which you are free to use even if your business is conservative.

Invite contacts to follow you:

Building your brand online requires you to connect with users and here is a great chance to take advantage of any work you’ve done to build contacts online. You can visit the settings menu and use the “Invite Facebook friends” option to send a notification to your entire Facebook network.

You can also connect with people you have already collaborated with, your employees. Having said that, you can use the “Invite friends” option to access other networks, such as Gmail, LinkedIn, Twitter, or Yahoo! contacts. For newbies, Twitter allows you to post your opinion, links, views in 160 characters and many users connect with many other like-minded people who are a part of the huge user base and it’s one of the most popular Social networking sites after Facebook.

While now, you will end up on the twitter homepage where you can fill information including your Full name, e-mail address and password to create your Twitter account.

It is advised to use your full name as your username if it’s available. Even though you can also change it now or later without any problem, sticking to one username from day one for better branding.

Well, if you have ended on this blog on ‘How to create an ‘effective’ facebook page’, we hope you like our tips and guidance in your journey to boost your brand online.

First things first, there are many do’s and don’t while creating an ‘official’ facebook page. It is not only marketing but a part of your branding. You are now creating your identity on social media and users will come to know that you exist through the platform, if everything is done right.

So, as we share with every step of the Facebook page creation process, we will be assisting you with a few tips here and there.

How to build Facebook page with easy steps

Here is an info-graphic with all the major steps and their brief details are given below. So, Let’s Get Started!

You can start by selecting the type of page you want to create. You will be given various choices including business/brand or community/public figure. If you’re creating a page for a business or brand, click the Get Started button for that option.

Business Information

Next, enter your business information. Make sure you write your business name or the name people are likely to search for when trying to find your business in your page name. Secondly, in the category section, you can write about the business niche you belong to and if something suitable comes up, you can select that.

After selecting your category, the box will expand to ask for a few further details, like your address and phone number. You will have a choice to make this information public, or to show only your city and state.

When you’re ready, click Continue which indicates your acceptance of Facebook’s Pages, Groups and Events Policies, so you might want to check those out before you proceed.

Add Pictures

Well, for your business Facebook page, you will have to upload a profile and cover images next. As this isn’t your personal profile, you have to choose wisely to create a good visual first impression with photos you choose to align with your brand and are easily identifiable with your business.

It is advisable to use your brand logo as your profile image as this image accompanies your business name in search results and when you interact with users. The picture that appears on the top left of your Facebook page is usually of a size of 170 x 170 pixels on desktop and 128 x 128 pixels on mobile cropped to a circle, so don’t put any critical details in the corners.

Post your profile picture, it’s time to choose your cover image, the most prominent image on your Facebook business page. It can consist of an image that captures the essence of your brand and conveys your brand personality. It will display at 820 x 312 pixels on desktop or 640 x 360 pixels on mobile. The image must be at least 400 pixels wide and 150 pixels tall, but the recommended size to upload is 720 x 315 pixels.

Username

A username or vanity URL, is how you tell people where to find you on Facebook. This social media address can be up to 50 characters long, but don’t use extra characters just because you can.

A tip to remember: Use an easy to type and easy to remember business name or some obvious variation. When you click Create Username  A box will pop up showing you the links people can use to connect with your business on Facebook and Messenger.

Add your business details

Now, this is an important one, you might be tempted to leave the details for later, but it’s important to fill out all of the fields in your Facebook Page’s About section right from the start. As Facebook is often the very first place a customer goes to get information about you, having it all there is important, you can click on Edit Page Info in the top menu and all the important information about your business.

This includes:

Description: A brief description about your brand and the value it adds put together in a couple of sentences can be of maximum 255 characters.

Categories: Select the category you selected in the first step, say restaurant, along with additional categories here to make sure Facebook shows your page to all the right people.

Contact: Here, you can add only those contact details that you want to make public, including your phone number, website, and email.

Location: This is important If you have a physical storefront or office, check to make sure that your location is marked correctly on the map. Also, add your service areas.

Hours: Again, a crucial information many look at including being open to the public during specific hours. This information appears in search results.

Extra options: Here if you find relevant, you can add your impressum(a legal statement of ownership), price range, and privacy policy link.

Click Save Changes under each section to implement your changes as you go.

Tell your story

Earlier users only got 255 characters for your business description and filled simple details about your business, but there’s not much here yet to tell people why they should engage with your business on Facebook.

Fortunately, this section on Facebook business page is where you can add a longer description of your business by clicking See more in the left menu, then click About, and then click Our Story on the right-hand side. Follow your description inclusive of what-why-how of your brand by entering a headline and text for your story, then upload a relevant photo. When you’re finished, click Publish.

Congratulations, you have created your Facebook page successfully

Case Studies: How Artificial Intelligence Is Changing Modern Business

The business world is transforming rapidly, with marketing strategies and online advertisement now bringing in revenue for companies in every sector. Business models have continued to evolve over the decades, but artificial intelligence has completely revolutionized key parts of business operations.

In fact, according to Forbes, AI-driven automation will likely be the only consistent change in business, amid all the other challenges that companies are facing. AI has worked its way into many areas of business, including the customer experience, which has become much more personalized. We live in an age where businesses must learn to adapt and use AI to better serve their customers if they’re to remain competitive. With AI gaining a foothold over the world, here are two industries where AI has been applied in both rapid and exciting fashion.

The Power Of Artificial Intelligence In Retail

AI is definitely changing the customer service cycle in the retail sector. The way e-commerce stores allow people to search, discover, and buy new products has become much more streamlined. It’s an industry that’s ripe for innovation, which is part of the reason why visual search has grown in popularity over the last few years.

The AI-powered visual search allows customers to look for a product with an image instead of typing in keywords. Shoppers can take a picture of something they want to buy to help narrow down the search results, which is helping users find the available item much more quickly. This, in turn, improves the customer journey. With visual search, e-commerce brands can enhance the efficiency of their service and provide a seamless experience.

Use of AI In The Gaming Business

Businesses of all kinds are taking advantage of AI, and online casinos are no exception. The use of technology in online gaming has been very prominent already for many years. Since mobile has become the go-to platform for just about everything, most online games can now be played across multiple devices. The industry has been forced to focus on providing consumers with online slots that work across phones, and there are various apps that can be downloaded.

When it comes to AI, online gaming businesses have been implementing this technology to improve customer support. Chatbots, for example, are currently being used for customer interaction and answering questions straight away, giving users instant access to the information they need. Many online casinos are also harnessing smart data to analyze their customers’ behavior. Data is an invaluable resource in any business. AI-powered algorithms gather information, make predictions, and can help gaming companies create a more tailored online experience for their customers.

It’s difficult to predict the future of AI because it’s still growing and changing, but there’s no doubt the business world will be at the technology’s mercy for the foreseeable future. AI personalization will likely remain a major focus going forward. Smart machines are now everywhere, and it presents an opportunity for businesses of all sizes to evolve, solve complex problems, and reach their target audience.

The concept of online business began in the late nineties when the world witnessed the “dot com boom.” When it was suggested that online shops could replace “brick and mortar” businesses, many in India were sceptical. Such scepticism was natural: Indians are fussy shoppers; they usually want to try out everything before they decide to part with their money. So, it wasn’t surprising to hear people say that while online business might work in America, it would not enjoy the same kind of success in India.

A Radical Change in Shopping Habits

But since those days, twenty years ago, the world has changed, and so has India. Indians have taken to online shopping like fish to water. In recent years, online buying has accelerated in India, thanks to the likes of Amazon and its Indian counterparts such as Flipkart. As a rule, Indian shoppers are impatient and suspicious. They don’t trust shopkeepers easily. Once they have made payment using a credit card or other payment device, they want to see and use the item they have bought as soon as possible. They are also keen to return something that doesn’t fit properly, such as, for instance, a pair of shoes. Thus, two things, more than any others, have contributed to the online business boom in the subcontinent: next-day delivery and a strictly enforced return policy.

Convenience of Buying Online

More and more manufacturers of goods are lining up to have their products listed on a site such as Amazon that can reach every household of this vast country. Increasingly, Indians are enjoying the sheer convenience of buying things online. While many, especially women, enjoy a day out at a mall, they still relish the comfort of having goods delivered at their doorstep. Such shopping extends not only to retail items such as clothes or electronic goods, but even to grocery items.

Discount Offers Attract Indian Buyers

Online business is very competitive. Businesses are quick to offer huge discounts and bargain basement prices to entice new entrants to the online shopping experience. Whether they want to buy movie tickets or make travel bookings, Indian shoppers are, likewise, quick to take advantage of a discounted price. Increasingly, these shoppers are realizing that if a site offers a bargain, many other sites will follow suit. All that is needed is some patience to see if there are still cheaper options on offer. Often, people plan trips well in advance to be able to get better deals. Airlines offer ridiculous discounts to travellers who book three months ahead of a planned trip, as do hotels. Thus, international travel sites such as Trip Advisor find themselves vying for business with such Indian counterparts as Make My Trip.

Online Betting Has Taken Off

Like every other business that has a presence on the web, betting sites in India have begun to attract Indian bettors in droves. You would only have to visit any internet cafe in India to come across people playing Rummy online. With its vast population of cricket fans, India is fast turning into a destination of choice for online betting sites. Apart from cricket, Indian bettors are also attracted to betting on the outcomes of other sports such as tennis, football, and horse racing. Major international betting sites have begun to seek a piece of the lucrative Indian betting market.  Indian bettors are becoming increasingly familiar with such international names as Betrally, Bet365, Betway, Royal Panda, and Unibet, to mention just a few.

Online Business Has a Bright Future in India

India, with its population of about 1.3 billion people, has a huge middle-class with money to spend. To put things in perspective, this middle-class segment of shoppers exceeds the size of the population of the United States of America. Indian and international businesses have been quick to realize the potential of selling online in such a vast market.
