Salman Khan is a name synonymous for one of the Bollywood's biggest Khan. In 2020, Salman Khan continues to be one of the top actors in India with 360 million dollars net worth as he wears more than one hat as he is an actor, producer, singer, and a tv host.

Three key important aspects of Salman Khan's life are family, friends and films. The 54-year-old actor has been in the limelight with various controversies surrounding him for decades of his career. Active since 1988, Salman Khan today enjoys popularity and fan base across India and abroad.

THE FIRST F, SALMAN KHAN'S FAMILY

Abdul Rashid Salim Salman Khan or Salman Khan is the eldest son of the screenwriter Salim Khan who wrote the classic Indian movie, Sholay with Javed Akhtar with his first wife Sushila Charak, who later adopted the name, Salma Khan.

Salman has four siblings including his sisters Alvira and Arpita and his brothers Arbaz and Sohail Khan. The actor has been very attached to his family and his friends usually become an extended part of the family. The actor has a Muslim father and a Hindu mother and he and his siblings are brought up in a religion-neutral environment.

Salman finished his schooling at St. Stanislaus High School in Bandra, Mumbai and his younger brothers Arbaaz and Sohail did as well. For higher studies, Salman Khan attended St. Xavier's College in Mumbai but dropped out.

While Salman Khan has remained bachelor, his siblings have married to their respective partners, Arbaz married Malika Arora (m. 1998–2017), Sohail Khan married Seema Sachdev Khan (m. 1998-present), Alvira Khan Agnihotri married actor/director Atul Agnihotri (m. 1996-present), and his adopted sister Arpita married Aayush Sharma (m. 2014-present).

DEBUT AND ICONIC BOLLYWOOD 90's 'FILMS'

Salman has starred in hundreds of Bollywood movies today, and his first movie was 1988 film Biwi Ho To Aisi with him in a supporting role. His career as a lead actor started with Sooraj R. Barjatya's romantic family drama Maine Pyar Kiya (1989), one of the classics and popular as it became one of the highest-grossing Indian films at the time.

The actor got nominated for the Best Actor at Filmfare along with a nomination for Best Male Debut at the same ceremony. Post that Salman never looked back as he went to deliver some of the iconic movies of Bollywood ever including Rajkumar Santoshi's Andaz Apna Apna, co-starring Aamir Khan, Sooraj Barjatya's romantic movie Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! co-starring Madhuri Dixit, Rakesh Roshan's Karan Arjun alongside Shah Rukh Khan, Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya opposite Kajol, he had an extended cameo in Karan Johar's directorial debut, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Hum Saath-Saath Hain: We Stand United, Biwi No.1, and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam alongside Aishwarya Rai and Ajay Devgan.

HOLLYWOOD, TV, AND COMMERCIAL SUCCESS

Salman Khan appeared in Chori Chori Chupke Chupke in 2000, comedies like Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004) and No Entry (2005), Salaam E Ishq (2007). He did a romance-genre Hollywood movie Marigold: An Adventure in India opposite American actress Ali Larter, a love story of an Indian man and an American woman.

Salman did enter the Indian television industry with his show 10 ka Dum and the show gained popularity soon as he also hosted the second season of the game show 10 Ka Dum during 2009. The streak of hits in the 21st century started for Salman Khan with Wanted and continued with movies like Ready, Kick Bodyguard, Ek Tha Tiger, Dabangg, Dabangg 2, Jai Ho, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, Sultan, Bharat, Dabangg 2.

OFF-SCREEN LIFE: MARRIED TO CONTROVERSY

Salman Khan has enjoyed the status of being a bachelor, but his personal life is married to controversies about relationships, lawsuits and Bollywood drama.

His relationship with Aishwarya Rai (currently married to Abhishek Bachhan, Amitabh Bachchan's son) ended in March 2002 while the actress imposed allegations of harassing and pounding her.

Besides Salman Khan's relationship with Aishwarya Rai being a well-publicised topic in the Indian media, His relationship with Katrina Kaif has also created a lot of controversies. The couple has been in the headlines for their link-up rumours, the fight of Shahrukh Khan and Salman Khan at Katrina kaif's birthday party, Katrina Kaif holidaying with Ranbir Kapoor, etc.

The actor has also been alleged in Blackbuck hunting and Arms Act violations cases. Post 26/11 Mumbai attacks, the actor was reported to have claimed during an interview on a Pakistani channel that the attacks got a lot of attention because the 'elite' were attacked. In 2015, the actor's tweet was the reason for controversy as he tweeted in support of the 1993 Bombay bombings accused Yakub Memon who was scheduled to be executed.

CREATING AND SABOTAGING CAREERS

Salman has played a  crucial role as a mentor to many actors in the Bollywood industry today. Most of these have been 'star kids' or children of already established celebrities during the 90s like Sonakshi Sinha, Arjun Kapoor, Sooraj Pancholi and composers like Himesh Reshammiya and Sajid-Wajid. At the same time, the actor allegedly sabotaged careers. The latest accusation was made by his Dabangg director Abhinav Singh Kashyap post the controversial suicide of young Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Kashyap accused Salman and his brothers (Arbaaz, Sohail) and their father Salim Khan of sabotaging his career and more specifically his movie Besharam.

Salman Khan and Sushant Singh Rajput controversy was in the news back in 2017, when Suahant allegedly misbehaved with Sooraj Pancholi who Salman mentored at the Filmfare while according to claims, Salman jumped into the matter and threatened Sushant to stay from Sooraj.
