A scheme for those in need, Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana launched in India in 2016, is a scheme of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas for providing LPG connections to women from Below Poverty Line (BPL) households.
With limited access to the poo, LPG cooking gas is a need for the rural people in India. While the spread of LPG cylinders has been predominantly in the urban and semi-urban areas, it has a coverage of mostly middle class and affluent households.
To the rest of the country, which is still using unclean cooking fuels, well, there are serious health hazards associated with cooking based on fossil fuels.
There have been 5 Lakh deaths in India according to WHO estimates, these premature deaths were due to non-communicable diseases such as heart disease, stroke, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and lung cancer.
Apart from that, Indoor air pollution is also responsible for a significant number of acute respiratory illnesses in young children, and to save them from becoming the victims, well, the LPG connections to BPL households will ensure universal coverage of cooking gas to empower women and protect their health are taken.
Benefits of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana are that it will reduce drudgery and the time spent on cooking and provide employment for rural youth in the supply chain of cooking gas.
Under the scheme, an adult (age 18 years or above) woman belonging to a poor family not having LPG connection in her household, is an eligible beneficiary under the expanded scheme and can get the LPG connection in the name of women belonging to BPL family.

The women applicant should have a saving bank account in any nationalized bank across the country and the applicant's household should not already own an LPG connection in anyone's name.
Well, if you are one of these people, then you can be one of the 5 crore families who will receive LPG connections along with financial support of Rs 1600 for each LPG connection to the BPL households, interest-free loan to purchase stove and refill by Oil Marketing Companies.
The government will bourne the administrative cost of Rs. 1600 per connection, which includes a cylinder, pressure regulator, booklet, safety hose, etc.
The first step of the process of receiving these benefits is for the interested candidates require to fill the 2-page application form and attach required documents along with the form.
The application form with has the basic details such as Name, Contact details, Jan Dhan / Bank account number, Aadhar card number etc and requirement of cylinder type i.e. 14.2KG or 5KG.
You can view the KYC application forms for Ujjwala Yojana online and they can also be downloaded online and submitted to nearest LPG outlet along with required documents.
The applicant's name should be in the list of SECC-2011 data or should be a beneficiary of PMAY-G, BPL ration cardholder, IAY beneficiary or Antyodaya ann yojana beneficiary, Forest dwellers, Most Backward Classes (MBC), Tea and Ex-Tea Garden Tribes, People residing in river Islands.

After filling the application for a new LPG connection (in the prescribed format) to the LPG distributor,
While submitting the application form, the woman will submit details, like Address, Jandhan/ Bank Account and Aadhar number (if the Aadhar number is not available, steps would be taken in coordination with UIDAI for the issue of Aadhar number to the woman of BPL household)
OMCs will undertake electronically the de-duplication exercise and other measures for due diligence for a new LPG connection and the connection shall be issued by the OMC to the eligible beneficiaries (after completion of various stages above).
