Indian Constitution Day, History & Celebrations
On November 26, every year, since 2015, India celebrates Constitution Day or Samvidhan Diwas or National Law Day.
It was to celebrate the Father of the Indian Constitution, B.R. Ambedkar’s birth anniversary. Ambedkar chaired the drafting committee of the Constituent Assembly and was the key person who drafted the constitution.
On 19th November 2015, the Union Ministry of Social Justice notified the decision of the Centre to celebrate the Indian Constitution promoting the constitutional values among the Indian citizens, according to the government website.

The day is celebrated to honour the constitution, its signing, adoption, and in some cases, commemoration of the change in the constitutional monarchy. The Indian constitution was adopted by the Constituent Assembly of India on 26th November 1949.
It is not a public holiday. On the 1st Constitution Day, various ministries celebrated the day and according to the Department of Education and Literacy, the preamble of the constitution was read by children in the schools along with many other activities in colleges and overseas Indian schools.
In the year 2021, India will celebrate the 131st birth anniversary of Ambedkar.
PM Modi reminded the country about the upcoming Constitution Day 2021 and announced that he will be attending two programmes at 11 AM in the Central Hall of Parliament of India at 5:30 PM in Vigyan Bhawan.

PM Modi wished the nation Constitution Day 2021 with Dr Amdedkar’s speech in the constituent Assembly on 4th November 1948 in which he moved the motion for the adoption of the Draft Constitution as settled by the Drafting Committee.

On the 26th November 2021, President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be addressing the Nation from the Parliament.
The celebrations will begin from the Central hall from 11 am onwards.
Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs has also extended these celebrations online at https://www.mpa.gov.in/constitution-day/ inviting the citizens to read the Preamble of the constitution, participate in several activities, and a certificate for the same.
