Umbrella Infocare Pvt. Ltd., A Leading Brand Successfully Intersecting Cloud, Analytics, and DevOps

After decades of successfully leading at TCS and IBM, 15 years ago, Gurprit Singh Gulati began his entrepreneurial voyage and focused on benefitting brands from the cloud, which fascinated him since it emerged as a concept. Interestingly, his 2012 co-founded venture, Umbrella Infocare and cloud solutions witnessed parallel acceptance.

As cloud solutions gained attention, broke the stereotypes of being a complex and costly solution, and became a trend reigning the industry, Umbrella succeeded in stepping closer to fulfilling Gurprit’s dream of assisting brands with digital transformation. Umbrella enabled customers to harness the power of the cloud by optimising flexibility, scalability, agility, and modernization.

While his first venture, Momentum Infocare, a company that provided on-premise tech solutions and got acquired by Ricoh, India, Gurprit went on to help Umbrella carve a niche for itself as a platform allowing customers to uncover new possibilities that placed them on the path to leading-edge innovation in their industry. On this journey, Umbrella won many accolades and awards and came to be recognised as a Premier AWS Consulting Partner.

The Inception Story

Before Umbrella Infocare, Gurprit co-founded a company that provided on-premise infrastructure solutions to customers. He and his team recognised challenges faced by the clients in areas of sourcing, maintenance, provisioning, scalability, upgrades and more, and these were seriously impacting innovation, time to market, ROI improvement, growth and more. Gurprit added, “These were very strong indicators that the market was leaning toward B2Bs and B2Cs looking for digital transformation and the way ahead was certainly cloud and digital transformation.”

He added, “Having identified such a huge need, we deep-dived into cloud solutions and identified AWS as a cloud partner who would help us ensure high quality and cost-efficiency. And with this, we became the “Born in the cloud company”. I drive multiple teams within Umbrella to innovate, execute and achieve results. I help them ideate, and also focus on identifying the right resources that fit in with our vision and goals.”

Versions Of Growth

The Umbrella Infocare journey has been a combination of challenges and triumphs, certainly a lot of hard work and learning experiences. They witnessed their company transform through the three stages. Umbrella 1.0 – when the focus was on cloud adoption, lift and shift approach and Managed Services; 2.0 was more about digital transformation and modernization by optimising Big data, with emphasis on customer journey and experience; and 3.0 focuses on automation and becoming future-ready with DevOps, containers, compliance and cloud security.

As the brand grew, handling tough challenges for AWS allowed the brand to receive recognition for its strong support, resilience, and quality of service. Another recognition which Umbrella boasts is positive testimonials by clientele.

From recognition by AWS within one year of inception to building a strong team with five major competencies including DevOps, managed services and migration over the years, the AWS Premier Consulting Partner for India in 2019 aims to seamlessly travel miles with their expertise, dedication, and collaboration, needless to say, enthusiasm, and passion.ntifying the right resources that fit in with our vision and goals.”

Gurprit’s Outlook on the Quotidian Challenges

Today, organizations face a 360-degree transformation from a “physical workplace” and systems designed for the same to a virtual workplace with a fast-paced “get work done from anywhere, anytime” culture. Employees work with flexibility while working based on personal pressures and commitments.

Technology is allowing a balance in collaboration, productivity and accountability. Growing businesses have a continued and increasing reliance on data and have recognized that data is the key to the success of any enterprise. While many businesses are unable to optimize data yet, they are considering solutions that will help them leverage data to make quick decisions, improve the customer journey, ensure productivity and efficiency and increase their ROI.

A change in the viewpoint of focusing not only on profits but also emphasizing resilience and business continuity, especially after Covid 19 is emerging. Innovating for resilience with the aid of technology takes time and a change in the way businesses function to achieve this goal.

The Umbrella Workplace

Umbrella promotes transparency, flexibility, and a resilience infused culture ensuring collaboration, mutual respect, and adherence to work ethics while they hire and train. The company vigorously believes in an open and approachable structure with core values of passion, dignity, transparency, customer, and technology focus. With keen attention to training, they ensure continuous learning and motivation for the team to build their skills and expertise.

Venturing Into Business In The “New Normal”

Umbrella’s effort in the pandemic involved establishing an exciting workplace culture that keeps the team on their toes and is supportive in an increasingly virtual world. The culture is new for the team, and they are learning and implementing on the go.

To meet the needs of working in the “New Normal” work environment, Umbrella is facilitating its team with training to adopt and embrace the changes. They also feel that some of the critical and interrelated new technologies would evolve at a much faster pace e.g., cloud adoption, data and analytics, machine learning, and cloud security which they are emphasizing on.

What’s behind Umbrella Infotech’s Success?

While Umbrella Infotech savours the status of a trailblazer today, Gurprit believes that their success is attributed to various factors. Their early mover advantage as they took the born on the cloud stance reflected their approach of continuously moving with the times, changing, and adopting new solutions and services to stay current and relevant to the customers.

Umbrella also invests in building a strong, dedicated and closely bonded team through communication, support, and motivation. They also focus on building meaningful relationships with their clients and partners by constantly exploring how the Umbrella team can bring value to them.

What’s next on the cards?

Striking the international market is a natural outlook for India's leading brand encompassing competencies and constant work on building more, especially in Big Data. A success at delivering solutions beyond the geographical borders of India will be followed by great cost value for premium services, and the message is getting more with less for their future clients across the globe.

Focus is the name of the game for Gurprit as he achieved heights of success. His secret to success is also combined with looking out for problems that are big. He said, “The bigger the problem, the sharper your focus, and success becomes an achievable goal.”

Corporate Social Responsibilities

Umbrella Infocare is actively involved in working with the Pankh Foundation that helps educate underprivileged children through a volunteer network. The organization provides a support system to orphaned children and dropouts, helping them to make informed decisions and providing mentoring in Maths, Science and English.

Umbrella Infocare also supports an organization named Expeditions For a Cause that runs multiple efforts to ensure a clean India. EFC is also a volunteer-powered organization and supports the government’s Swachh Bharat initiative as well.

“The future belongs to organizations who prepare for it today - so all of us need to keep imagining and ensure that we keep making decisions with speed and agility.”
