Teacher's Day expresses gratitude on behalf of the students to all the teachers for their immense contribution to their pupils' lives. Apart from this, this day is also celebrated as the birth anniversary of Dr S. Radhakrishnan.

The day is celebrated twice a year, where the first one is National Teachers' Day, celebrated on 5th September every year in India. Secondly, it is celebrated every year on 5th October as World Teachers' Day.

Teacher's Day is celebrated not only in praise of the teacher but also for all those who show the right path and give knowledge. Teacher's Day is also important for Hindus, Jains and Buddhists, where the day marks Guru Purnima for them.

Why Teacher’s Day is celebrated?

Teacher's Day, i.e. 5th September, is the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Om, commonly known as Radhakrishnayya.

Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was born on 5 September 1888 and was an academic professor the second President of India from 1962 to 1967, and the first Vice President of India.

It is said that Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan went to meet his students after becoming the President of India.

After the meeting, his students requested that they wanted to celebrate his birthday in a special way. Hearing the request of his students, he said that if they really wanted to celebrate his birthday, then celebrate this day as a mark of respect for all teachers.

Maybe the day of celebrating Teacher’s Day varies from one another, but it is celebrated enthusiastically across the world.

In India, it is celebrated annually on the 5th of September; in China, it is celebrated on the 10th of September; in the United Kingdom on the 9th of May; in the United States of America, Teachers' Day is celebrated on Tuesday of the first week of May.

On the other hand, many other countries celebrate this day on 5 October. In 1994, October 5 was considered as World Teachers' Day or International Teachers' Day.

How Teacher’s Day 2023 is celebrated?

Teacher's Day is celebrated with great enthusiasm and zeal in every school and colleges by the students. On this day, students express their gratitude to their teacher by organizing many programs like singing, dancing, drama, games, etc.

Students also bring gifts, flowers, and greeting cards for their teachers and seek their blessings by touching their feet. In the end, the teacher gives a speech where they thank the students for their immense love, respect and honour for them.

Apart from celebrations in schools and colleges, the nation also celebrated this day by awarding National awards to teachers. The President of India presents these awards to exceptional teachers working in primary, middle and secondary schools.

In addition, the Inspired Teacher Recognition to the teachers of the University is also acknowledged with medals, certificates and cash prizes.
