Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM) is a Unified Payments Interface (UPI); based app that lets you make simple, easy and quick payment transactions. With no registration and bank details of payee required to do the same. With this technology, the application allows you to have bank-to-bank payments. And Pay and collect money using just Mobile number or Virtual Payment Address (UPI ID).
Here are the features and benefits you may avail as you download the BHIM app:
First, you create a profile and it is a tab you can visit to view the static QR code; and Payment addresses linked to your account. You can also share the QR code through various messenger applications like WhatsApp, Email etc. Available on phone and can also download the QR code.
Then, you can select a preferred language. For those who don't want to operate it in English, you have options. Well, while there has been testing going to add more languages. Currently BHIM is available in 13 languages, i.e., Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Bengali; Odia, Kannada, Gujarati, Marathi, Assamese and Bengali.
Select SIM which has made a mobile number that is registered with your bank. You can use this for sending & requesting money. One can also transfer money using your Mobile No. (Mobile No should be registered with BHIM or *99# and account should be linked).
Login by setting a 4 digital application passcode: Once you have done these steps; you can log in by entering and confirming the four digits passcode.
Select and link your desired bank account. You can add as many accounts as you wish. And use the Bank Account Option to check the bank account which is linked; with the BHIM App along with PIN status. Customer can set/change the UPI PIN, a bank account linked with BHIM App; by clicking 'Change Account' tab provided in the menu. This feature also helps a user to check their account balance.
Set your UPI Pin by providing the last 6 digits and expiry of the debit card. Users can send money by entering Virtual Payment Address (UPI ID); Account number and QR Scan and to collect money, they can again enter Virtual Payment Address (UPI ID).
Click on send and enter UPI ID or Aadhaar number. You can also Scan & Pay the QR of the person to whom you want to send money.
Enter the UPI Pin you set earlier to authenticate the transaction. You can pay someone just like any other digital transfer platform by scanning the QR code through Scan & Pay.
Check transaction history to see the status of the transaction. Also, while this is a feature, BHIM App offers a feature to raise a complaint about the declined transactions; by clicking on report issue in transactions which makes the Bhim app more reliable.
Well, various features have made the app safer to use by the Indian citizens as you can:
Block/Spam users who are sending you collect requests from illicit sources.
Allow a user to disable and enable mobilenumber@upi in the profile; if a secondary UPI ID is created (QR for the disabled UPI ID is also disabled).
Schedule payments as per your convenience.
Split Bills with multiple UPI users at a click of a button.
BHIM app users need to remember three things. First, the passcode, then the Payment Address and last, the UPI personal identification number (PIN). And each one of them adds to the sending, receiving money through the BHIM app; becomes a habit in this rapidly moving cashless world.
The passcode, which the user creates after downloading the BHIM app; comes with an access code so that no one can accidentally access it.
The Payment Address, which be your mobile number@UPI, is something you need to share to receive money; from someone and it can also be custom made.
Primary Linked Bank account can be any of the 30 banks currently which can be linked with the BHIM app. You can get your account to a primary account by selecting a bank. You will be asked last four digits of the bank account and IFSC code which will confirm the account is linked.
