PEARLS OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP FROM THE TEACHINGS OF SWAMI VIVEKANANDA

January 12 marks the 156th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, who was one of India's most revered spiritual leaders. He introduced Hindu philosophies and spirituality like Yoga, Vedanta, Hinduism, and Meditation to the western countries. Born in 1863, Vivekananda lived without most of the trappings of modern society.

No internet, no mobile phones, very limited technology. But his teachings, characterized by the pursuit of fearlessness and truth, transcend geography and time. In this era of startups and the pursuit of authenticity, his words ring truer than ever.

The exceptional visionary, Vivekananda went against the flow, broke the barriers, shattered the old belief systems, is even now reminisced by all the generation, across the globe.

Today, Vivekananda's life is an example to millions of youth world, and people from all walks of life have taken lessons from his life and his teachings.

12th of every January, India celebrates his birthday as National Youth Day to celebrate the wisdom, teachings and million of the soul that illumined the world with his presence. Here there are top leadership lessons from the great Hindu monk and a patriotic saint of India:

Full Dedication in the Work

"Even the greatest fool can accomplish a task if it were after his or her heart. But the intelligent ones are those who can convert every work into one that suits their taste."- Vivekananda

Greater Leaders always stay dedicated to their work from start to end. It doesn't matter what you are doing but, how you are doing it that makes the major difference. If you are dedicated to your work then golden opportunities are always possible for you.

Be Nice to Others

"This is the gist of all worship – to be pure and to do good to others." Vivekananda

Since childhood, we have been taught about prayers, religion, God, visit temples, gurudwaras, masjid or church. But, we forget why exactly we are praying, what exactly we are getting in return from God?

We should remember the purpose of our worship, that is the power and energy we get, to beat the darkness, to help others always without the expectation of getting something in return.

Stay Disciplined

"Leader is one who knows how to obey commands before knowing how to command. Learn obedience first."- Vivekananda

A leader must know the rules of the game because he is the one who presents the example for others to follow. Leaders take the helm; they walk the talk and never ask their teams to do what they cannot do themselves.

A person who is in a leading position, he sets high expectations, standards, and ideas for others to follow.

Stay Strong

"Whatever you think, that you will be… If you think yourselves weak, weak you will be; if you think yourselves strong, strong you will be." Vivekananda

It's all about our mind; it can restrict us or push us beyond limits. Every task, dream, sport or academic, is a mind game.

Very few people can run for 42 km every day but a lot of people manage to run marathons, not because their bodies allow, but because their mind pushes the body. If you want to be strong, first you have to believe you are strong.

Strong Intentions

"There is no impossible word in the dictionary of those who lead. No matter how big a challenge, they can be resolved with strong intentions and resolutions."- Vivekananda

A leader should always hold marvellous intentions, long-term vision, and the resolution to try until he succeeds. When you decided to work on a noble mission with the right intentions, you will have to face hurdles, but you will surely accomplish it in the end.

Keep this always in mind that hard work always leads to excellent results. Take every problem as a challenge and make efforts to overcome it strong solution.

Be the Motivator

"All power is within you. You can do anything and everything. Believe in that"- Vivekananda

Actual leaders are those who empower their people by believing in them, trusting them and they rise to greatness as a result. A leader instills a belief in others where they can achieve things that they never thought were possible.

Swami Vivekananda preached about the infinite power that presents in every person and how it unleashes itself to support us achieve anything we wish.

These are some great teachings of Vivekananda that can be infused into the present corporate culture. Swami Vivekananda was a leader in the true sense; he changed the perspective of western countries towards the cultural superpower, India.

To sum up his journey and learning, he once said: "This life is short, the vanities of the world are transient, but they alone live who live for others, the rest are more dead than alive."
