TECHNOLOGIES THAT WILL REMODEL INDIA IN 2020

Two centuries ago, in the 1820s, a cotton spinner or an iron maker in England was an invention in the midst of an industrial revolution. Today, in 2020, we might be on the verge of another era of momentous change, the internet revolution.

In the 1990s the internet came into the picture and since then the technologies have matured to a point where fundamental change constantly seems to be right around the corner.

In the new decade of 2020, there are various questions that one might strike in one's mind including what new frontiers may Artificial Intelligence (AI) or gene editing open up? or will we have robot bosses? Or Will we be able to cure 90% of all genetic diseases by the end of the decade? Or whether technologies like mixed reality change the way we consume entertainment and sports? The technologies have the potential to alter the thinking about conventional processes and alter India and the world.

Here are a few questions related to technologies which have already either transformed existing India or have the potential to remodel the lives of Indians in 2020.

What will AI do in Next Decade?

Imagine a world where real and virtual realities produce new environments and visualizations with visual and digital objects interacting in real-time. Watching a football match, not on the TV, but on a virtual reality (VR) headset which is streaming the live match along with projecting interesting stats on the fly with the help of augmented reality (AR) is a [perfect example to showcase Mixed Reality.

Mukesh Ambani's brand, Jio has been promising a future with the mixed reality that includes a fusion of AR and VR through products like Quark camera, Holoboard headset, and the high internet speeds of Jio Fiber.

What is the Future of Solar?

Technologies have been transforming the solar power industry as today the solutions are much accessible today for a greater range of businesses. Today, technology continues to evolve and increase in popularity, so do the benefits that it provides in saving costs and use of energy.

Floating solar, on its part, is providing a credible option to address land-use concerns associated with wide-scale solar implementations. Besides being already a technology that has been worked towards in several countries like France, Japan, and England, floating solar technology projects are also planned to execute in other parts of the world like California and India.

Another technology that might be revolutionising Indian in 2002 is pace-based solar technology which is bombarded with investments by three countries including India, Japan and China. To transmit energy from orbiting solar panels by 2030, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency's (JAXA) Space Solar Power Systems (SSPS) has been initiated by Japan.

Will Indians be having robots bosses?

Robotics, a technology that has been created to ease the solutions provided today, maybe taking over the world in the next few years which is feared by many. A consultancy firm, McKinsey surveyed and discovered that between 400 and 800 million individuals around the world could be displaced by automation and would need to find new jobs by 2030.

Replacing humans with jobs is evident today as the automated jobs are taken over by the Artificial Intelligence-powered chat-bots and intelligent robots today, humans will eventually be put in a situation where they will be guided by a robot boss. However, if we look at it from a different side, the most threatening fact is that people trust robots more than their managers and that they are better at doing certain tasks than their managers like maintaining work schedules and providing unbiased information, than their human counterparts.

How will mankind grow with Gene Editing technology?

Changing the very element that defines humans their DNA, is achieved by the revolutionising technologies of Genome editing or gene editing by the scientists. Human cloning is a technology that has been continuously worked towards as the human genomes or genes, are being routinely edited in a bid to find solutions for what are today considered to be incurable genetically inherited diseases.

CRISPR, Clusters of Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats is a tool that allows researchers to easily alter DNA sequences and modify gene function. The role that CRISPR plays is of an enzyme that acts like a pair of molecular scissors capable of cutting strands of DNA. Editing the genes of people to help them be cured of life-threatening diseases is something that can be done with the help of this technology. Not only this, the researchers are looking to extend the positives of this technology to tackle famine, lend a hand in creating antibiotics, and even wipe out an entire species such as malaria-spreading mosquitoes.

Conclusion:

In India, the remodelling of the society in terms of healthcare, trade, entertainment, etc will change and the tradition of change and growth will take place supported by technology in these transformations.
