The co-founder of Google and CEO of Alphabet, Larry Page was born with coding in his blood. He is an internet entrepreneur and computer scientist.
At Stanford, Page teamed up with grad school buddy Sergey Brin and created a search engine Google in the year 1998, which listed results as per the popularity of the pages. Since founding, Google has grown as the world's most popular search engine.
Larry's childhood was full of computers and science magazines, and that developed his enchantment for technology at an early age. Page is also the co-inventor of PageRank, a renowned search ranking algorithm for Google, which he wrote with Brin.
As of June 2019, Larry Page was the 12th-richest person in the world, with a net worth of $51.1 billion. And, Forbes put him on 10th position in the list of "Billionaires 2019".
Lawrence Page was born on March 26, 1973, in East Lansing, Michigan US. Both his parents were computer science professors. His father, Carl Page, was a pioneer in computer science and AI, and his mother was in computer programming.
Since childhood, Page was obsessed with computers, he often brags about being the first student in his school to finish an assignment on a word processor.
Page did his graduation from East Lansing High School in 1991 and pursued a bachelor's degree in computer engineering from the University of Michigan. Later, he enrolled for his Master of Science in computer science in Stanford University.
In 2007, Page got married to Lucinda Southworth, who is a research scientist on Necker Island. Southworth is also the sister of American actress and model, Carrie Southworth. The couple have two children.
In 1995, during his Ph.D. at Stanford, Page met fellow researcher Sergey Brin when he was working on a research project. And, they had had come up with a search engine named as 'BackRub' by 1996.
Page and Brin decided to initiate their project as a company. The co-founder of Sun Microsystem, Andy Bechtolsheim financed their company with $100,000. The project, renamed as 'Google', was officially incorporated as a company in September 1998.
In 2004, Google launched Orkut, a social networking site, and brought Google Desktop search. The same year, Google had held its Initial Public Offering (IPO) that made both creators millionaires. The philanthropic wing of Google, Google.org was created for social issues and causes.
In 2005, the company launched Google Maps, Blogger Mobile, Google Reader, and iGoogle. In 2006, Google acquired Youtube and brought the chat feature in Gmail.
In 2007, Google entered into a partnership with China Mobile and Salesforce.com. In 2008, they launched Google Sites and a new version of Google Earth.
In 2002, Page was listed in the MIT Technology Review TR100 with Brin for being among the top 100 innovators in the world under the age of 35.
In 2002, he was selected as a Global Leader by the World Economic Forum for Tomorrow.
Page has been awarded with the prestigious Marconi Foundation Prize with Brin for their meaningful contributions in science and technology.
In 2008 he was presented the Communication Award by King Felipe at the Princess of Asturias Awards on behalf of Google.
In 2009, Page was conferred with an honorary doctorate from the University of Michigan in a graduation commencement ceremony.
In 2011, Forbes placed Page, on 24th in the list of billionaires, and as the 11th richest person in the US.
In 2014, Fortune magazine named Larry Page as "Businessperson of the Year," declaring him "the world's most daring".
In 2015, Forbes named Page as number one in "America's Most Popular Chief Executives", according to the employees' voting.
