Recently, the government has announced to honour 'Nightingale of Bollywood', Lata Mangeshkar with the 'Daughter of the Nation' title on her birthday, September 28. The title will be as a tribute to her contribution to Indian film music over seven decades. For this special occasion, Poet-lyricist Prasoon Joshi has written a special song.

According to the news, Modiji is a very big fan of Lataji's voice. The Melody queen represents the collective voice of the Indian nation and increases the honour of India across the world.

Lata Mangeshkar Biography

The most popular playback singer of Bollywood, Lata Mangeshkar was born in Indore on September 28, 1929. She belongs from a Marathi-speaking Gomantak Maratha family. Very few known that Lata Didi's original name is Hema, she was born Hema Hardikar Mangeshkar to a Marathi father and a Gujarati mother. Later, she was renamed Lata because of a character 'Latika' from her father's play, BhaawBandhan.

Lata Mangeshkar started taking training at the tender age of five with her father Pandit Dinanath Mangeshkar as her guru. But she started her career in singing in 1942 when her father passed away due to heart ailment.

As a teenager, Lata didi struggled a lot to support her family and to establish herself as a playback singer in the Hindi film industry. That time the profession was dominated by divas like Shamshad Begum and Noor Jehan. After a lot of struggles and failures, Mangeshkar recorded her hit "Uthaye ja unke sitam" in Andaz (1949), and her destiny was sealed.

After this song, she voiced the musical parts for every major leading lady. Famous Music directors like Naushad Ali, S.D. Burman, and Madan Mohan composed tunes particularity to exploit the potential of her wide-ranging soprano. She has sung for over 50 years for actresses from Nargis to Preity Zinta, and having recorded albums of all kinds including ghazals, pop, etc.

Lata Mangeshkar's some melodious and soulful hits like Dafli Wale, Pyar Kiya Toh Darna Kya, Dil To Pagal Hai, Luka Chupi, earned her top position in India Hindi Cinema.

One of her most memorable renditions is of Ae mere Watan ke logon.

At the age of 92, Veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar dies On 6 of February 2022.

Awards and Recognitions

Until the 1991 edition, the Guinness Book of World Records listed Lata Mangeshkar as the most-recorded artist in the world with not less than 30,000 solo, duet, and chorus-backed songs recorded in 20 Indian languages during 1948 to 1987. Present-day, that number might have reached 40,000 approx.

Lata Mangeshkar is the only popular Indian singer, who is awarded with the highest civilian honour of the land, the Bharat Ratna. She has receipt India's highest film award — Dadasaheb Phalke Award, France's highest civilian award, three National Awards, and many Filmfare awards.
