The land of hoary archaism, Tamil Nadu is the originating place for many art forms and artists.   1. Chennai: The biggest economical, architectural, cultural and educational center of South India, Chennai is the capital of Tamil Nadu. This city holds the position of being of the most populous city in India. The city is one of the major metropolitan cities in India and the most visited Indian cities by tourists. Located on the south-eastern coast of India, Chennai has the famous Marina beach. It is the home to Fort St, George, a three hundred years old fort, now a museum showcasing the city's roots as a British Military Garrison and an East India Company Outpost. Cultural sites in Chennai include Kapaleeshwarra temple carved with the painted Hindu gods and the St. Mary's a 17th century Anglican Church.
  2. Mahabalipuram: A town on a strip of land between the Bay of Bengal and Tamil Nadu is famous for its temples and monuments built by the Pallava Dynasty. The Group of Monument at Mahabalipuram, a UNESCO World Heritage Site is located at the Coromandel Coast of the Bay of Bengal, about 60 km south of Chennai. The location is a collection of 7th and 8th century CE religious monuments in the coastal resort town of Mamallapuram, Tamil Nadu, India. The group contains several categories of monuments include ratha temples, cave temples, and structural temples.
  3. Madhurai: The home to one of the most famous and beautiful temples in India, Meenakshi Amman temple, Madhurai is an energetic and ancient city on the Vaigai River. The skyline of this land showcases the 14 colorful gorapams (gateway towers) of the Meenakshi Temple. One of the major pilgrimage sites in India, Meenakshi temple is covered with the colorful carvings of the Hindu gods in the Dravidian style temple. Madhurai is also home to the Gandhi Memorial Museum that documents the Indian struggle for Independence in the 17th century.
  4. Puducherry: Puducherry is the most interesting tourist locations in India. It is often called as the France of India. The place in Puducherry is famous for preserving the French heritage with Indian culture and offering a good time to the tourist. Puducherry is naturally rich with some of the famous beaches in Tamil Nadu. The city also has a planned township that aims to develop India through the idea of peaceful co-existence also known as the "City of Dawn".
  5. Coimbatore: A city that comes second based on area and population in Tamil Nadu after Chennai, Coimbatore is also known as Kovai and Koyamatur. The city of Coimbatore is the largest exporter of Jewellery, wet grinders' poultry and auto components. The city has grown rapidly due to industrialization post-independence. It is also known as the richest city for the development and revenue for the state of Tamil Nadu. The city is an educational hub with various famous educational institutions like Amrita VishwaVidyapeetham, CI, Hindustan, Karunya University, and many more. The land is the home to most hill stations like Ooty, Kodaikanal, and Mettapalayam that makes it a perfect destination to visit in winters.
