History of Royal Rajasthan

The history of Rajasthan can be traced from Indus Valley Civilization. With its unparalleled geographical location, the state has gained numerous republics like Arjunyas, Kushans, Malavas, Saka Satraps, etc. In 321-BCE Rajasthan was the part of the Gupta Empire. Due to some political turmoil in the 6th century, when Gupta Empire began falling, things got unstable. In 700 CE, Gujara-Pratiharas came into power and till 851 CE, this destiny was well settled.

During the 9th century, Rajput came to power. Rajputs played a historical role in Rajasthan with their unparalleled bravery and merits. During the 8-9th century, Rajput clan gained supremacy and were divided into 36 royal clans and 21 dynasties. In the 10th century, the Chauhan dynasty was established. In 1191, Prithviraj Chauhan was ruling in Rajasthan that time there were constant attacks by the Muslim ruler, Muhammad Gohri. In 1200, Chauhan was defeated and Muslim rulers started establishing themselves.

In 1540-1556, Hem Chandra was ruling and in 1556, in the battle of Panipat, he was killed. Slowly, Akbar started doing alliance with Rajput rulers. Some Rajput rulers accepted the Akbar’s offer, and some of them maintained a distance from him. One such ruler who was against Akbar was Raja Man Singh. In 1567, a battler started between them. Rajput women did not agree to live under the Mughals and committed ‘Jauhar’. After the death of Maan Singh his son, Maharana Pratap continued the legacy and firmly against the Mughal Empire. In 1576, the battle of Haldighati took place in which Rana was wounded badly. Although, Rana Pratap remained in exile for 12 years and attacked the Mughal Empire several times and finally, won his territories of Mewar and freed much of Rajasthan from the Mugal rule. In the early 18th century, the Maratha Empire developed well and remains flourishing. But in the late 18th, the power of Maharath declined when most Rajput states jointed hands with British East India Company.
