How to maintain a work culture that stimulates growth

Work culture of a company lays the foundation stone of its longevity and affinity. How big and successful it would prove to be can be predicted by its culture in and around its work place. According to an article published on Entrepreneur, the writer introduces us to the findings of a research conducted by author D.D.Warrick which point that “organization culture can significantly influence the performance and effectiveness of a company; the morale and productivity of its employees; and its ability to attract, motivate and retain talented people.”

Insemination of a robust company culture carves tenacious teams and entitles every team member to work with fervor which could pave the way for a commensurate vision. This emboldens the open translucency which is believed to be pivotal for begetting and sustaining diverse minds. Mr. Warrick further adds that “cultures are like precious and prized treasures” which needs to be nurtured to stupefy everyone including prospective employees and clients. Strong work culture is a living organism which when exercised and nourished can be the most valuable strength of a company. It can animate new life, inspiration and passion into a company and its workforce. A growing company’s culture may be vulnerable to weakness, downfall and neglect due to scaling operations, scarcity of resources and change in management etc.

Right from the inception, a company can bedrock its culture in a tradition which can prove to be fruitful for reinforcement of its culture. The workforce will be the fuel for the blossoming of its culture.  There are assorted ways which can help a company define its work culture. One of those includes cultural tradition of storytelling. One can incorporate storytelling into the core to elevate human connection, collusion and closeness. Hearing and telling stories empower people to be themselves, to grow and to share. Each week, team meetings can be arranged within respective offices of employees and stories can be told about interesting client interactions, exceptional experiences with other employees and personal learning takeaways. At the end of story time, team members can collectively vote on their favourite story. That story can then be pushed out and shared with other offices. This way, work culture can transverse the boarders and oceans that divide workforces. Practicing storytelling keeps positive energy high within the office and even outside the office.

As a company expands, it should be able to understand the culture outside of its work premises. Failing to understand that might kill a company culture. An article published on Innov8 points out that “one of the biggest downfalls of corporations is non-recognition of importance to understand their work culture while operating their business.” Understanding the life and motivations of new people can easily become part of a company culture which helps in the facilitation of smooth integration. Culture plays the role of a magnetic. It has the ability to pull exquisite people into seamless collaborations. Anytime a business grows, it’s important to figure out what attracts and what repulses. This way, a company can minimize any possible emerging pains.

The company can build a team of culture guardians. One can designate individuals within ones company to keep an eye on everything. This is a way to measure the expanding health of a work culture. Encourage this team of culture caretakers to communicate, educate and demonstrate the cultural ideas of the company. As the company expands and new hires come aboard, culture will stay strong. A company should focus on its people by looking at culture from a holistic approach. Finally, it should empower employees to shape, change, transform and cultivate company culture.
