The CEO Magazine chats with Dr. Tejinder Singh – Founder & Chief Executive officer at 360 Nautica Tech Ventures

TCM: How did your organization get started? What was the underlying bedrock idea behind the incorporation of the company?

Dr. Singh:The journey that paved way for the conception of the idea began when we ventured into creating web products around four years back. We looked at multiple options like partnering with a development company, buying one or outsourcing work.

We tried different models for the next two years before we could realize the importance of having our own team to support our technology vision in GCC (Gulf Corporation Council).

While we were building the team, we started getting enquiries for building products or marketing them for customers across the globe and that's when we set up 360 Nautica Tech Ventures which today drives 360 Bytes and 360 Digital.

TCM: What is your favourite aspect of being a CEO?What three pieces of advice would you give to youth in the business environment?

Dr. Singh:A business leader is always driven by the passion to achieve excellence and growth which gives him the energy to keep going. It may not be enough to provide all the solutions to your human resource. When they see that their boss is so confident, they know there is nothing to worry about. This is something that cheers you up as well.

Decoding National Productivity Trends Analyzing Influencer Marketing in India: From Bollywood to Your Neighborhood Star

Three things young entrepreneurs should take note, in a nutshell are: lifelong learning, share failures, and manage people. Learning never ends in entrepreneurship. Peer-to-pear learning among entrepreneurs is an essential for growth; especially in local businesses and startups.

Budding entrepreneurs should be willing to share their failures as this also goes with the learning aspect. Failures offer valuable lessons for all but learning from others' mistakes only through observations makes it all the more difficult.

Managing people is a crucial aspect of entrepreneurship. This is the biggest problem that every entrepreneur faces. It appears to be simple; but don't be deceived. Human being is the most complex machine on earth and one cannot solve all different problems with just one format.

TCM: What was your first product like? What was the same or different compared to your most recent?

Dr. Singh:For me entrepreneurship is all about creativity, fun, doing what I love, solving customer problems, conducting projects, innovating new processes, consulting, developing profitable business units, cash flows, profitability, attain goals and it also envelops long term view of building a self-sustaining organization.

Sparsh, which I set up in 2003, summed up all these attributes. It was the first domestic BPO Company to get listed on the stock exchange. More importantly, it generated around10, 000 employment opportunities. Now, at 360 Nautica, some things remain same while some get changed. I work with a team of highly passionate optimistic and thoughtful people who want to make a difference.

We can say, the goal remains the same but the approach is different, as far as the entrepreneurship is concerned. It's always solving one core problem at a time with patience, creativity, focus and passion and being consistent with it.

TCM: How do you learn in your life and what is your biggest dream? Who are your peers?

Dr. Singh: I try to identify opportunities in everyday problems. This is how I come up with business ideas and convert them into successful businesses. To give you one example- people have to wait outside a cinema in a long queue to book tickets; or maybe they do not get the tickets of choice.

That is a problem and therein lays an opportunity for me. That's how Q-tickets – Qatar's first ever-online ticket aggregator platform came into existence. Today, it is the most popular choice to sporting and entertainment ticketing in the country.

TCM:What do you hope to accomplish within the next year from personal as well as professional point of view?

Dr. Singh: I am looking forward to explore the potential in Social Media, E-commerce, Healthcare, Education, Payment and Collections Management and Internet of things (IOT) in the coming period.
