Subcontinent’s Photography Icons Gear Up for a UAE Showcase

As photography takes a leading role in telling some of the most inspiring and powerful stories around the world, Xposure, Sharjah's first International Photography Festival, is to use its world-leading photography platform to bring award-winning photographers from around the world to share their inspiring stories.

It features two exceptionally talented photographers from India and Pakistan, who have made a mark internationally with their incredibly immersive and awe-inspiring works of visual art. They include:

Vineet Vohra from India, a self-taught photographer who is now considered among the top 20 street photographers in the world. Vohra started shooting as a wildlife photographer but turned his lens to the street in 2001, and instantly felt a new passion that became second nature to him.

He established the Art Photo Feature Magazine in 2011, which is driven by an educational zeal and seeks to recognise fresh talent. Vineet is a Leica Ambassador and conducts Leica Akademie workshops in Singapore and New York at the Leica Galleries.

Multiple international award-winning Pakistani photographer, Waheed Akhtar, who won the Xposure International Photo Contest 2016 in the Fine Art Category, will be exhibiting again this year. Akhtar has been living and working in the UAE for the past 15 years, and his passion for photography has led him to attract a wide audience from around the world in a short span of time. He specialises in long exposure photography, and has spent the last few years mastering the art of converting extreme long exposure shots into fine art photos.

A few months with the camera and Waheed was selected among the Top 10 Winners for 'Scott Kelby WorldWide Photowalk'. The winning opportunities haven't stopped since.

He will be taking a long exposure and post-processing workshop at Xposure 2017.

The upcoming edition of the festival, organised by Sharjah Government Media Bureau and taking place from November 22 – 25, 2017 at the Expo Centre Sharjah, will spark a region-wide engagement and inspiration through a gathering of 32 of the world's most celebrated photographers.
